Speaking of guns...

Yeah there’s a few factors. By small 9mm, do you mean a compact?

If you’re just interested in a full size and it’s just for protection, there’s really no need to change, just get a larger 9mm. Multi guns means stocking up on different ammo. Sure there’s more oomph to a .45, but a 9mm will kill just the same and you get more rounds in a mag. There’s a lot of arguments over .45 or 9mm.

The plus for sticking with the 9mm is high capacity mags, you already have one, ammo is a lot cheaper, and easier to get. And if you’re ever thinking about an apocalyptic scenario, you’re most likely to come across 9mm ammo. A .40 is probably the next most common these days.

Now if you ever anticipate shooting someone with body armor, I’d go with the .45. Put more of a hurting on them, maybe the armor will protect against 9mm but not an.45, or at least not more than 1 or 2 .45 rounds.

Glock really is best bang for your buck. Always reliable, cheap for extra magazines. The problem is, at least when I was looking a few months ago, I couldn’t find one in stock.
Gunbroker has a ton.
I looked there back in February or maybe it was March and couldn't find a single Glock 19....IIRC. But my brain is muddled these days, so maybe not

I have Glock 26 gen 4, subcompact 9, which seems to be available. Also have even smaller sig 938 which has been just as reliable as the glock. I like 9s as the whole family can use them... figure a 9 with hyrda shok is plenty of stopping power for home defense etc.

It really is. Then there's the whole argument about strikers being more reliable than 1911's. Although I've never had either of my Kimbers jam on me, I haven't put thousands of rounds through them. Most of us won't shoot them enough or use them in a real world situation where we're going to notice the difference. As you said, the right ammo for home defense will be enough for any intruder or carrying.

I can say my .45s have far better range and accuracy, but I can't imagine I'm ever in a scenario where I need to shoot something 100 yards away and I don't have a rifle with me

Nah. My wife is 5'2" - 100lbs and loved shooting 45s. Before I sold my 45s, to downsize to one caliber, she loved the Sig 1911.

Is a rpg allowed under ccp? I have a fear of being attacked in Asheville by Water Buffalo, Elephants, and giant Kangaroos

When I went on this 8 night trip to AK some years ago, we camped every night along the River, definitely Grizzly country. The outfitter wasn’t happy I brought a .45, he commented it won’t stop a Griz, my reply was I can shoot whoever’s in front of me while we’re running away in the ass, problem solved. They didn’t think that was funny

You really only need a 22 for that. Just shoot someone in the knee cap, then slowly move away.
I think the concern with caliber vs bear is not freaking the fuck out and shooting at whatever you can hit

Granted, in part I'm in will just have black bears, so I really have no concern. Odds of attack are very low unless cubs are nearby and they're not really sneaking up on you with possible intent. If I were in grizz country, I might be more worried. They can close ground crazy fast, so aiming for a knee may not work out so well for you.

It's a myth though. There are plenty of instances of a grizz being killed by a .45. And if you use the right ammo, 100% it can. A lot of Alaskans carry a .45 as their sidearm. My dad's cousin lived way up in the tundra for a long time as a government addiction therapist to the Inuits. I've heard plenty of stories. Although when he took my dad hunting for a couple weeks on Inuit land, his .35 Whelen (that bastard shoots a flame 2 feet out the muzzle) never left his side. The outhouses at the cabins didn't have doors so you could shit and see in front of you at night with your rifle pointed out because people would get mauled by bears on the shitter. What a crap way to go

The outfitters carried 12g w slugs, with the extended mag. We got fairly close to a big ass male, and though we were in the water in a boat, it was f’n freaky, the dude exuded menace, and you knew you weren’t at the top of the food chain.

Yeah, I've been somewhat close to a black bear and felt safe. Getting anywhere near a Griz would probably scare the shit out of me

My husband went to the backwoods in Montana with only bear spray shocked he didn’t die lol.

He saw like a bloody leg of a deer on the snow and was sure he was being stalked as meat

I'm sure I'd die in grizzly country. I'm too stupid to be cautious enough. I wouldn't approach one, but I generally overestimate how much fear animals have of us. Works fine here in Florida where things do generally avoid you and flee.

I was just talking about this yesterday with someone. When people get attacked by animals or get lost in the woods, usually city people. They are over confident or too stupid to have a healthy respect for nature. I've had hogs get aggressive with me, I don't even go on nature trails without being armed

Possible pre-emptive goodbye to me or perhaps just some fingers. I've been toying with the idea of making my own gunpowder. It's surprisingly simple with 3 easy to get ingredients and they're making their way into my amazon shopping cart

If you weren't already, you are now definitely on a terrorism watchlist.
