Speaking of guns...

My new gun safe was finally delivered today. I opened it up and this was inside (for free)

Pretty badass.

Nice! What kind of safe did you get? I'm about to run out of space in old one.
I got this one. Paid to have it installed and bolted down. I do wish the sheet metal was thicker but honestly I doubt it will ever be tested. Liberty is supposed to make some really good stuff.

While gathering all my shit to put in the safe I couldn't find a very sentimental gun (Colt Delta Elite 10mm) and about lost my shit. Ended up finding it in a closet underneath a bunch of stuff. It's shit like this why I needed a safe in the first place.

Yeah, having things stashed everyone, you eventually lose or temporarily misplace it. My safe is an electronic lock with backup keys. Well I had to hide the keys right, I couldn't just leave them sitting out? Well now 8 years later, I don't have a fucking clue where I hid the 2 keys

Timely for this, I just found one 2 days ago in the bottom of a tactical bag that has a bunch of survival stuff stored tucked away in a closet.

I gotta go get my gun back from my buddy. Put it in his safe while we were on vacation. Didn't want it lying around while my dumbass brother-in-law was house sitting.

He already shot one of my tv's with a bb gun.

Is he 7 years old?

I'm guessing booze was involved.

No. Like 60. But like I said. He's a dumbass.

Nothing. Not a concern. My dad’s safe with most of his guns was in his workshop, no a/c, when he lived in Florida. 20 years there and no problem (and he’s a gunsmith).

Does he know about antique firearms?

Huh. The internet makes it seem like humidity control is a must (especially in Florida).

What do you guys use to combat humidity in your safes?

I use a golden rod dehumidifier.

Probably a dumb question but how do you get the power cord out of the safe?

He knows a lot about the rifles, no clue about antique pistols. Working on them is a different story. I know he’s worked on a couple and can tell if it’s worth it to be fixed or not. He has a late 1800s Winchester that’s been in the family forever, but like most of them, getting them in shooting condition isn’t worth the money. I think pitting inside the barrel is the most common issue with antique guns that makes it wall decor.

Whatcha got? I can pass along a question if you got one.

Never has been for anyone I’ve known. An exception is if you store it in foam. That can become an issue. They can rust in a heart beat if you store it long in those cases lined with foam like pistols come in.

Rifles just standing up in a safe, no issue. All my pistols are in holsters, except the full size Kimber. That one is wrapped in cloth and inside the case where it’s been most of the last 25 years. Touching that foam just sucks up the humidity, but if you have air space, you should be just fine. It doesn’t hurt to have dehumidifier, but the concern online isn’t really justified. Like throwing away spam because the date says it expires in a year. Cautionary.

So... question for you gun types. My dad had a few guns that my mother wants out of the house. A couple rifles, a shotgun and four or five handguns.

I don't want to get rid of them but I don't want my kids or their stupid friends to discover them either. That probably means a gun safe, but I'm reluctant to drop a thousand dollars or more on a big heavy object that I can't move around without a big hassle.

Are trigger locks effective? I'm not worried about theft so much as I am one of the kids accidentally shooting themselves (or me).

Only ones I’ve ever had came on purchased guns and were thrown away. They would have certainly been effective.

If you ever decide to part with any of them, let me know. I’ll always buy unregistered guns if they’re worth buying
