Yeah. And to label him a perv means she can never have a bf unless she finds some dude with the same affliction I guess.

Yikes. Genetics are wild.Juggs said:RIP said:So the internet wants this chick to never have a meaningful relationship in her life because she has a disorder that stopped her growth? Fuck em.
I knew a chick who was the opposite. At 15 she looked 50. She was dead before 20.

It's horrific to witness. She was a great weight before this, and has lost about 10lbs in a month.Evil gator said:holy shit that sounds terrible RIP
RIP said:My wife has been dealing with dysphagia for about a month now (that was caused by GERD). She hasn't eaten solid food since then, and is completely miserable. She can't swallow pills due to this, but our goddamn insurance (United Healthcare) refuses to pay for the medicine in granule form. The prescription is fucking $500. I hate our "healthcare" system so fucking bad.
Well, she got an endoscopy done which revealed she had what's known as a Schatzki Ring (which is a tight band of scar tissue around your esophagus). They used a balloon to dilate it, and that caused her underlying GERD to go completely out of control. He should have medicated her from day 1 (we had to call the office 4 days later and ask why she is so miserable). He ended up giving her the wrong meds, and today she finally got them in a form she can take. Basically if she takes the meds (prescription proton pump inhibitors) the GERD should clear up within a month or so. She may need to take acid reducers for life but that's not too bad.Irish Mike said:RIP said:My wife has been dealing with dysphagia for about a month now (that was caused by GERD). I had to Google dysphagia. That sounds horrible. Is it something treatable or will she have to deal with it forever?
Sorry man, that sucks.RIP said:Well, she got an endoscopy done which revealed she had what's known as a Schatzki Ring (which is a tight band of scar tissue around your esophagus). The craziest part of everything is the fact that she was doing exactly the regimen you describe for years. ACV, leaky gut "cures", etc.Juggs said:Sorry man, that sucks.RIP said:Well, she got an endoscopy done which revealed she had what's known as a Schatzki Ring (which is a tight band of scar tissue around your esophagus). But something to consider if she hasn't - I've done a deep dive on this a couple times. GERD can nearly cripple me. Stupid PTSD type shit from my anaphylaxis where my type of GERD feels like my throat is suffocating, feel like I'm swallowing my tongue, can't bring, heart rate skyrockets. Basically it mimics anxiety to the point where I can't differentiate GERD from anxiety (I can now, but it took years to figure it out). I was on cymbalta for a while and that did a great job at suppressing my GERD because part of it was stressers, but then I made it worse using PPIs. I switched to Wellbutrin last summer and I lost that benefit from cymbalta and my GERD returned pretty badly, limited me to very bland foods. Then the deep dive - Because Dr's don't care about finding the cause, only treat the symptoms, and they've completely fucked up the diagnosis and treatment of GERD.
In most cases, GERD isn't caused by too much stomach acid, but too little. PPI's suppress that stomach acid, making the issue even worse, especially with long term use. Long term use, the body stops producing stomach acid completely. It'll eventually lead, if it's not already, to the body not being able absorb any vitamins/minerals from food or pill form along with potentially long term damage to your stomach lining, etc. in addition to the damage already done to her esophagus. It's like putting a slow burn poison on a cut. You think it's helping, but you'll regret it down the road.
Fast forward 7 months later today, I'm back to drinking coffee 3-4 cups a day, eating hot sauce, spaghetti sauce and other acidic foods, etc. that last summer would cripple me for days (it took months to get there). What changed? No PPIs and a ton of supplements to heal and repair the gut, get it producing stomach acid again. Essential Stacks Gut L-Glutamine Powder (the best I've found), A quality Pre & Probiotic and Digestive Enzymes (many good brands out there, but eating fermented foods like cold stored/raw sauerkraut, drinking Kefir - which is disgusting, kimchi, etc). Drank a shot of apple cider vinegar every day. Ginger tea. May need to find a diet that suits her body - Some need the NOMAD diet, but otherwise google diets for GERD and also look up Leaky Gut). On the occasion I overdo it, a little liquid Mylanta will fix it where 7 months ago I could drink a bottle and it did nothing.
These may or may not help her. I do understand the desire for immediate relief, but while she's on the PPI's for now, I'd encourage y'all to do the research on the effects of long term PPI use, the stuff I mentioned, and see if she thinks it's worth it to her to see if she can heal herself (even if it's a miserable 2-3 months).
