📺Television Movie/tv thread

Watched the Marvels....3 chicks. For the trash talk it got, I thought it was an entertaining movie. Funny, good action, didn't see the woke shit people mentioned other than it simply being 3 female superheroes, but it fit in the story.

Fringe. Interesting, weird show. Well, the show isn’t weird, but the sci-fi science is both weird and intriguing.

Still in season, no idea how they keep this for 5 seasons.

I enjoyed Fringe quite a bit. It gets really good in Season 2, and the story arc remains solid through Season 4. They thought it was going to be canceled after 4 seasons, so Season 5 is kind of weird.

I don't think they are, but these episodes feel really long. I've binged tons of shit, but I've been binging this show for a few days and I've still only made it through 12 episodes.

To me it's like a scifi version of Bones. Different new crimes to solve each episode, but main stories in the background driving each crime that surface here and there. Walter Bishop is just great, the actor does a fantastic job. I have theories about Bishop son and the black DHS guy, but too early. The more episodes I watch, the more into it I get.

Yeah, it follows kind of an X-Files formula. There's the "monster of the week" type episodes and then there's the underlying story arc that kind of connects them all. As the series goes on, the puzzle pieces fall into place, but as a result, the show is less fun when the mystery is solved. That happens to a lot of shows - Lost is a great example.

Each season was like 20+ episodes so it can feel like a slog, especially when most really great shows now are like 10 episodes in a season.

It doesn't seem like a slog yet, it just felt like I should have seen 20 episodes and it's only been 11. I didn't even check to see how many episodes there are or how old the show is. Definitely rare for shows to have 20+ episodes in a season....and a quick google, 2008. That explains it. That also explains JJ Abrams and the formula. Lost had it too, with the Others only occasionally being a part of the story for a while.

That's kind of a bummer to know that the mystery is solved well before the conclusion of the show though. I mean, it kind of has to with that many episodes, they can only string people along for so long and then they have to try to recreate the mystery. Bones reinvented new villians/major arcs well, Supernatural did it a few times with great success and a dud or two. 2 shows with far greater run lengths at 20+ episodes a season than Lost, who failed at it (though not as badly as I initially thought on rewatches.)

I'll keep at it, but if that's the case with this show, I can see the binge coming to an end once the mystery is done and it becomes a gap filler until it's finished.

To their credit, they do come up with additional conflicts and mysteries to keep the story going. I think you'll be happy if you stay with it at least through the end of Season 4. Season 5 is a little different, but not bad.

I was so fucking bored in the theater. Even the nuke scene sucked. My step-Dad fell asleep halfway through.
my wife loved it, I thought she was as bored as me and tried to get her to leave. Matt Damon showing up 30-40 minutes in made it a little better, but the movie felt like it was 8 hours
