The Trump team never even mounted much of a defense - he didn't testify live and they presented no witnesses. Not the best strategy - a jury wants to hear from the other side and playing a deposition isn't a good substitute.

The judge instructed the jury that if he gave her so much as an unwanted kiss, he'd be liable. The plaintiff was allowed to put on a ton of character evidence in this trial, which would probably have been inadmissible under Florida law. I don't know New York law, but I'm sure there's plenty of room for an appeal.

I also think it's bad policy to allow a defamation suit if you're simply denying someone's accusation against you. I know some states allow it (as they did with Bill Cosby), but it seems to be pretty unfair and actually allows people to defame others because the accused will be dissuaded from trying to defend themselves.

Never mind the statute of limitations issue here - a battery from 30 years ago? Very hard to defend, seems inconsistent with fairness and due process.

Yeah...NYC jury. Clinton appointed judge. It is ludicrous to me that a woman with no witnesses, no date. and waiting 30 years to bring it up, can get a ruling. Evil...you should claim he did you in a Georgetown bar restroom. Might be worth 5 million.

What amazes me also is the woman that says he sexually assaulted her on a plane was allowed to testify. Her story is that it was okay when he was fondling her boobs but when he went below the waist THAT WAS OVER THE LINE.

New York law is probably different but in Florida they’d get close to that. 40% of the first million, 30% of the second and 20% of the remainder. That’s 1.3 million before costs, which in a case like this could be a few hundred thousand dollars.
