Yeah, no surprise there. You don't get to run a guy down in your pickup and then act surprised if he suddenly turns and reaches for your gun. Whether or not he's a "jogger."

That's the kind of "provocation" the Rittenhouse prosecutor wanted the jury to find. They created the situation.

That's why I hate the comparisons people are making to Trayvon Martin.

These guys ran him down and he reacted. Trayvon circled back, when he could have gone home, and confronted shit head Zimmerman.

That seems like bullshit. Discretion is discretion. Should work both ways.

And a felony too. I mean if she took money to kick the case, sure.

Yeah that seems like a stretch to me. She did recuse herself. Seems like a quirk of Georgia law, not sure how far it can be taken.

CHICAGO (AP) — Two brothers arrested for an alleged attack on Jussie Smollett recounted for Chicago police how the ex-“Empire” actor orchestrated the hoax, telling them via text message to meet him “on the low,” paying for supplies and holding a “dry run” in downtown Chicago, a lead investigator testified Tuesday.

Theis, who now is assistant director for research and development for the Chicago Police Department, said roughly two dozen detectives clocked some 3,000 hours on what they thought was a “horrible hate crime” in January 2019. He said they were excited when they were able to track the movements of two suspected attackers using surveillance video and cellphone and records from ride-sharing services.[/size]

I bet they were.

Jurors were shown surveillance video of the brothers buying supplies, including a red hat they told police Smollett wanted them to wear to resemble supporters of then-President Donald Trump, and a piece of clothesline police said was later fashioned into the noose. Jurors also saw a still image from a video that Theis said showed Smollett returning home the night of the alleged attack, with the clothesline draped around his shoulders. The clothesline was wrapped around his neck when officers arrived, Theis said, leading detectives to believe Smollett may have retied it.

What, exactly, is the defense here? That the Nigerians really attacked him but Smollett didn't coordinate it? That there really were a bunch of white supremacists running around Chicago in the middle of the night in the freezing cold, with a noose and bottle of bleach just waiting to attack a famous black homosexual?

Seems pretty open-and-shut to me.

Some courtroom drama:

Thursday's session got heated and defense attorneys called for a mistrial. One of the lawyers alleged Judge James Linn lunged at her, and another said the judge was making facial expressions.

It began when the judge interjected as attorney Tamara Walker repeatedly pressed Ola Osundairo on his use of homophobic words, such as when he referred to a musician friend as a "fruity ass." Linn angrily instructed Walker to move on from her line of "collateral" questioning.

The defense has suggested during the trial that homophobia may have been a motive in a real hate crime attack that night.

In a heated exchange, Walker asked the judge for a sidebar, which he denied at first. After the defense for a second time requested a meeting outside of earshot of the jury, Linn sent the panel out of the room.

Walker and her defense team requested a mistrial.

As the exchange between the judge and the defense quickly escalated, Walker became emotional, at one point sobbing as she paced around a table, claiming Linn was not allowing her to continue a line of questioning that was critical to the defense's case.

Walker also claimed Linn lunged at her while at the sidebar, something Linn vehemently denied.

"When you said the word mistrial, and I know you have some pressures here, I'm stunned that you would consider a mistrial," Linn said. "Ms. Walker, there were objections that had to be sustained and I was trying to get back on point."

"Just because you think you were allowed to go one way, we're all just doing our jobs," Linn told Walker.

"There will be no mistrial," he told the stunned courtroom.

Defense attorney Heather Widell also addressed the judge, stating, "I would also like to go on the record that there are facial objections coming from the bench when there are objections."

"You're great at facial expressions," Linn shot back.

So, he says one of the Nigerian guys went to the gay spa with him and did gay things. He totally denies that there was a hoax and came up with excuses for everything.

edit: Oh, and Don Lemon apparently tipped him off that the police didn't believe his story.

Meanwhile, in Arkansas...

Prosecution rests in Josh Duggar child pornography trial

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) — Defense attorneys for former reality TV star Josh Duggar have begun presenting their case to a federal jury with testimony from a computer analyst who said it’s possible that the computer where child pornography was downloaded could have been accessed remotely.

The testimony from forensic computer analyst Michele Bush came hours after a Duggar family friend testified under questioning from prosecutors that Duggar admitted in 2003 to molesting four young girls, the Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reported.

Duggar, 33, is charged with receiving and possessing child pornography and faces up to 20 years in prison on each count if convicted. His federal trial began last week in northwest Arkansas.

The prosecution rested its case Monday and Duggar’s attorneys began calling witnesses shortly thereafter.

Defense attorneys for Duggar have argued that someone else downloaded or placed the child pornography onto the computer at Duggar’s workplace, noting that no child pornography was found on Duggar’s phone or laptop.

But federal prosecutors have detailed logs showing, minute by minute, the activity on Duggar’s computer that alternated between him sending personal messages, downloading child porn and saving pictures of notes.

Duggar, featured on TLC’s “19 Kids and Counting” show, was charged in April. Prosecutors say child pornography was downloaded to the computer in May 2019.

TLC pulled the reality TV show in 2015 over revelations that Duggar had molested four of his sisters and a babysitter. In 2015, Duggar publicly apologized for his pornography addiction and cheating on his wife, calling himself “the biggest hypocrite ever.”

Duggar’s trial is happening as his father, Jim Bob Duggar, runs in a special election for a vacant state Senate seat in northwest Arkansas. Jim Bob Duggar was also featured prominently on the TLC show and previously served in the Arkansas House.

Jim Bob Duggar is one of four Republicans seeking their party’s nomination. Early voting was to begin Tuesday and the primary is set for Dec. 14.

It seems a clever defense - if you find him guilty you’re a racist homophobe
