🔫Guns all new guns thread

Should be fine. Might put a dehumidifier in it, just in case.

I put a golden rod dehumidifier in my safe, to keep my older guns from rusting.

It's fine as long as you don't store it in anything that creates moisture from the humidity. I've seen morons store ammo in ziplock bags in a shed.....That was obviously an issue with the condensation from plastic.

My dad (gunsmithing and reloading, both hobby and as a business) worked out of a separate building with just a window unit for A/C here part time (only when he was in there) in Florida for 20 years. Never had an issue with any ammo, black powder, nothing. His larger gun safe with all kinds of expensive shit was in that building, never had an issue with firearms rusting either (including my great grandfathers Winchester from the 1890s). Just keep ammo in the cardboard boxes they came in and no worries. If we have no problem shooting 50+ year old ammo found in my grandparents home (also here in Florida), no issues.

Fun tidbit, my great grandfather called that Winchester his, "nigger gun"

I inherited some guns and ammo from my dad. I don't know how old the ammo is but it was kept in his garage - some of it is probably decades old (for example, I know he hadn't even looked at his shotgun since the early 1970s probably).

What's the worst that happens to old ammo? That it doesn't go off when fired? That could be a problem when you need to fend off a home intruder, but I don't think it's dangerous to try to shoot it off at the range. I don't think I'd fire any bullets where the casing shows corrosion, though - probably not likely with brass, but still I would give it a look before firing it.

brass can absolutely corrode, but it'd have to be stored very stupidly as I mentioned....in something that sweats. It won't just corrode from pure humidity. The real danger of bad ammo misfiring is that it could potentially cause damage to the gun that, however minor and seemingly unnoticeable, causes a big issue when you put a live round in. I've heard of it happening, but I don't know how likely it actually is.

so what happens it doesn’t discharge from the gun and “explodes” inside?

Best case, it doesn't fire. Worst case, it goes off and sends a round a few inches down the barrel. Next good round causes barrel/receiver to come apart/explode.

Technically every round explodes inside the gun. In addition to the squib load/misfire that ufgators68 mentioned, you can have hang fires. Thats when the round goes pop but not bang for five or six seconds. Usually the muzzle has moved quite a bit in those five or six seconds.

But as to the question of how long rounds are good...decades at least. If stored properly. I still have some hevi-shot duck rounds from 20 years ago that still work.

Some people keep going on about the tannerite on the table... that shit isn't doing anything. It isn't mixed.
Don't know much about it. But that's really beside the point, isn't it? Whether it's harmless or not, it's mere presence if the situation were reversed, libs would be screaming the gun nut was going to kill everyone by being reckless. I'm 100% fine with using liberal tactics at this point.

What a bizarre way to go about it. I mean, if you really wanted to shoot some guns as a photo-op, why on earth wouldn't you go to a real range with a real instructor? Hell, make a show of it - go to whatever range the local sheriff's office uses and that way you also get law enforcement support.

But instead, he goes to some yokel's house where basic safety precautions are ignored and he ends up looking like a schmuck.

It's astounding. She was failing miserably with her commie policies, so she just copies what Trump says now. She says the dumbest, most blatant lies that anyone can find where Trump falls on any policy within 30 seconds of X or Youtube searches. It only makes her look worse.....she'd have done better sticking to being a commie.
