Damn you Doc, I'm blaming this on you.

Laying in bed last night and I hear a light noise. Meh, houses make noise, I ignored it. Then a longer drag/scratch noise. My bedroom is in a corner of the horse and I have traps and shit not far outside my window. Sometimes critters get trapped and ram the cage hard enough they move wood and stuff I have funneling them towards the trap down. But it sounded closer to my house, almost like someone was scraping down the wall. It was a weird sound. I go look around outside....nothing. I go back to bed and then it happened again, just once....

and it was right above me this time.

Not once in my years here have I heard something in the attic until now. You and your rat problem, it's all your fault somehow.

Sorry, man.

If it makes you feel any better, I thought my rat was dead/gone because I hadn't heard anything in a couple of days, but this morning I was sitting in my easy chair waiting for my son to get ready for school and heard something scrambling around the ceiling... on the other side of the house from my bedroom.

The way my house is, I have have a huge open area in between the bedrooms on the left (if you're looking from the front door) to the kitchen/living room area on the right. The bedroom side of the house has two stories. The kitchen/living room is one story, but it has an attic space that I can get into via an access panel in the kitchen ceiling In the open area between the two, there's just a roof and high ceiling. Probably an 18-inch-high space between the ceiling and roof where a critter could crawl from one side of the house to the other.

It's probably the same rat. At least I hope it is. Having an infestation will not be good for my sanity.

Yeah, an infestation would suck.

I have attic access on each end of the house. Luckily one is in my closet, so I'm pretty close to where I heard the noise. I have enough shit going on here though, last thing I needed was to deal with this.

gurgle gurgle bubbles death.

Speaking of critters, I was moving some old firewood to layer into a 2' deep garden bed and uncovered a few newborn field mice. Momma was huge. My daughter was out there, who has a bleeding heart for animals. For the last week, she's been leaving food for them. Anything she can find, dollops of peanut butter, pieces of her fruit, etc. I keep trying to tell her, they're fucking mice....they've lived out there forever without your help. All your doing is wasting my food. Of course she doesn't stop.

Flaco had “severe pigeon herpesvirus” from eating feral pigeons, which Bronx Zoo veterinary pathologists said had become a regular part of his diet.

Pigeon herpes. Good to know.

I've been having a bad problem with rats in the chicken coop...eating all the damn food, getting eggs. Smart bastards avoided or beat a few different types of traps. Had to buy small live traps....I've killed 5 or 6 small ones and 5 huge ones so far. There's at least 4 or 5 more large ones left. They shall be defeated.
