It's decent. Had some funny parts and some wannabee funny parts.

Some good action scenes.

Christian Bale was really good.

Middle of the road Marvel movie. Better than Dark World and Black Panther. About Ant Man level.

Opens up a while new direction for Marvel.

Watched about half the new Bill Burr stand-up on netsmack last night. If Denver and vd watch their heads may explode... but he does his best to offend everyone. Pretty funny stuff.

Not sure how I feel about this - I enjoyed the Lord of the Rings movies a lot and rewatch them once in a while. Hope it's good, there have been some rumblings about some of the actors being diversity hires.

And multiple Tolkien experts that were on staff as consultants quit because they said the direction of the show wasn't true to Tolkien's ideas.

And Heaven forbid they cast people that look like their book description. Don't remember a whole lot of black elves in LOTR.

i hate how absolutely EVERYTHING has to have a gay relationship storyline now. part of the reason I watch period dramas is to escape from modern nonsense. i get gay people existed in the past but ffs why do they have to be crammed in to every damn show. i have no problem with gentleman jack where its the main plot line. But every show now I am partly watching to see who is going to be the closeted gay I have to watch getting it on. Its so tiresome.

Yep. Commercials, tv shows...they all make it seem as if America is mostly gay and interracial couples. It's not, at all.

Also, I watched all of Gentleman Jack. Not bad. Her business dealings and such are more interesting than the love affair, because sometimes the girl is just irritating. She's 29 to start with and acts like she's 13. I get that's the point, that she's emotionally undeveloped and possibly mentally challenged to an extent, but still...it's a little over the top at times.

Yeah it’s fine to have gays or race be a focus. The gilded age has a very interesting black character who has a compelling story(better than the white girl).

But for other shows it’s shoehorned in. Make characters interesting please

Agree. I enjoyed the black girl in Gilded Age. Her character had a purpose and story.

Was he gay or bi? Doesn't matter, he really had no purpose and him being gay didn't factor into the story at all.

This reddit thread makes some good points about why some of the "diverse" casting decisions in the new Game of Thrones series don't make sense within the context of the Game of Thrones universe:

It's still stupid. We already know these characters is white. If it was the first screen adaption, maybe. But non book readers have already seen the show and changing the race is just retarded.

Not to mention, stop fucking with GRRM's work. The 2 Dave's proved that writers fucking with his writing or going off on their own doesn't work out well.

I don’t really give a shit if it’s fantasy.

I usually don't, either, but it's not consistent with the universe they've already established. People from different parts of the world - just like our world - have different characteristics. Plus, there are established bloodlines in the books and there are a ton of storylines about babies being switched, bastards being born, suspicions that children don't look like their purported father, etc.

Maybe it'll all make sense within the context of the new show's plot, but if they are suddenly making a Valyrian look like someone from Naath or the Summer Islands, they should probably have some kind of in-universe explanation.

Given that he's dark black with bright blonde hair, it I doubt there's a logical explanation.
