The gratuitous didn't really last long though. 2 seasons maybe? It backed off a lot once characters were developed. But seeing how Tyrian lived in whore houses and Littlefinger owned them, it shouldn't be such a shock.

Yes, some of it was gratuitous, but some of it was also part of the story. The world of Game of Thrones was much more primal than we're used to. Sex and violence were supposed to be commonplace (and for the most part, brutally unromantic).

Still, I always looked forward to watching at least in part because I knew there would be nudity. Same reason I don't mind watching Outlander with my wife - I know there's a good chance I will see the main character's boobs in any given episode.
