It really all goes back to Angela merkel. She pushed for migrants and shutting down nukes while banning fracking. Germany was a powerhouse then and most of the euros followed her lead, relying on Russia for natural gas, making them rich and emboldened. It’s so so moronic.

So basically it started with a good idea - that the fed gov should abide by enviro regs. Sure, an army base shouldn’t pollute. But, there are subsequent laws prohibiting that like the clean water act. So what it’s become is environmental impact study after study for any type of project (not just federal) and environmental groups can sue over not having spent 3 years studying bird migration patterns rather than 2.
It’s part of why everything takes forever and costs a fortune.

Yeah I had zero idea what it was until I moved here and went to a meeting at the White House and some guy was there from CEQ, in the corner, literally DOZING. We were actually talking about how regulations were impacting our industry’s ability to function lol
