Is it really dependency on ibuprofen or is it really liking the feeling of not hurting 24/7? Obviously there's a difference and you and I are pretty qualified to tell what gives actual relief and what our body is addicted to

My dad recently got on some pill for arthritis....and he's never taken anything more than a BC powder. He won't take anything, ever, stubborn fucker. But his small town, not sold out to big pharma, old ass Doctor up there in TN told him it was the same med he takes himself. It's not pred though, I'd have remembered that one. But he has no side effects from it....but it's also not 100%, it just makes the arthritis less severe.

It would be nice, I had a new Dr. appt scheduled and that bullshit 10 pages of new patient paper work. By page 2, my hand was killing me just from holding that god damn pen.
I think it’s a dependency on ibuprofen, though I don’t have a clue how that actually works, all I know is after I finished the prednisone, the need to take ibuprofen isn’t anywhere like it was. It might be all in
my head?

I've seen an awful lot of people that says red light therapy works. I've had it recommended to me by my psychiatrist, who was a neurologist for 30 years before she went into psychiatry. She was involved in a number of studies, surgery, etc....not just an academic and her scope was wide and pretty damn impressive. And she makes an effort to resolve things naturally, not with throwing pharma at you. We discussed the red light therapy before and she said there's some really credible evidence that it helps. Obviously not a miracle cure, but it may well have been your answer and the timing of stopping pred was just a coincidence :beatsme:

There’s a cold laser device on Amazon that’s around $100, it’s pretty ezpz. I’m going to give it a couple months of using it regularly, I think then I’ll be able to say it helps or not, I think it does, but it’s anecdotal at this point.

Please find out the name from your dad, I'd love to have something other than Tylenol.
Hydroxychloroquine - Actually a malaria drug, but

Hydroxychloroquine reduces swelling (inflammation), pain and stiffness of joints, and can improve or clear up some rashes. It's sometimes used with another DMARD such as methotrexate or a short course of steroids to relieve pain. Hydroxychloroquine is only available on prescription. It comes as tablets.

Interesting! Thanks btw. My wife has been on that since '22. A very long story I was going to post in the bitch thread, cliff notes version is back in 20-21 she started going downhill with weird symptoms, her quack doctor at the time had us chasings symptoms with various specialists; neurological, gastro, etc. She went from a physically active person who subbed at the high school, volunteered at the hospital, was in 2 tennis leagues, pickleball, organized bike trips like bike Florida, kayaking trips, etc. She went from that to barely able to walk more than 10 minutes without resting. Docs at first thought some type of cancer but they weren't sure. We're sitting in the gastro examination room and the nurse, who was looking at her labs, asked if she was under hospice care. My response was "WTF are you talking about??" He explained that her kidneys were barely functioning and recommend we go straight to the ER. After a week running various tests, they did a kidney biopsy still thinking cancer. Turned out it was Lupus nephritis and systemic Lupus, one of the most difficult conditions to diagnosis since the symptoms mimic a lot of other things. Her rheumatologist put her on Hydroxychloroquine, an old malaria drug that's no longer used for malaria. Good news is we saved her kidneys, she's no longer in hospitals, nursing homes or rehab hospitals or wheelchairs. On a walker slowly healing. I don't have the heart to wish Lupus on my worst enemy, it's insidious. They've taken her off most meds, still on the hydro and anti-rejections meds to suppress her immune system. At one point she was on massive doses of prednisone which screwed up BP, blood sugar and many other things. Hydro is very effective against Lupus.

That sounds frustrating as hell. Glad it worked out for her.

I met a woman with Lupus 5 years ago, a nurse. She managed it holistically, but at this point I can't remember the details. She went from what you described to being back at work, active, etc. without any drugs. An extremely clean, limited diet was a big part of it and all I can remember.......I was on a lot of valium. The nurses in detox like to share their stories to try and connect with patients...but when you're in the midst of heavy withdrawals, but also floating from 10mg of valium, details tend to get lost

Damn I want some valium.

It really affects people differently, 9 out of every 10 patients are women, Docs don't know why. Some have mild symptoms, others severe. It can attack different organs: skin, brain, gastro, kidneys. Can hide in the body for years until something triggers it, viral or bacteriological infections, severe sunburns, exposure to certain chemicals like pesticides, and on and on. They really don't know. In her case it was probably the 2 times she caught covid, could also be a reaction to the covid vaccine shots she had to take to continue substitute teaching and hospital volunteering. Thanks to all for your kind thoughts, It's been a hard couple of years but we're still here.:nanarock:

I need a slow period at work to try and ween off klonopin. Been on it since sober, I’m sure everyone knows it’s a slow release benzo. Miss a dose at night and you start withdrawals about 24-30 hours from your last pill. It helps with sleep a bit, so I take it at night.

Missing a dose, aside from being alcoholic like withdrawals, is trippier at night. Vivid dreams, but the withdrawals wake you up constantly. So you sleep for an hour with fucked to vivid dreams, but it’s like you’re still dreaming but obvious awake. Awake enough to be really uncomfortable, not awake to snap out of it. A half dream like state. Repeat every 30 minutes to an hour all night as you slip right back into the same dream over and over, picking up where you left off like it had a pause button. Usually 6 hours later real anxiety kicks and that’s when I usually notice I missed the pill last night. Today though, the night was so fucked up, I knew as soon as I managed to shake the cobwebs off.

If you’re curious, the dream was immediate post apocalyptic, killing, stealing and slaves. A massive flood that seemed Biblical, people floating on houses, boats, weird shit that’s not physically possible. I saw a tornado rip through, but it was like a legit tornado, not a water spout. I had candy. I stabbed people. The shitty vivid part is a lot of these dreams involve my kid and trying to find her.

Fuck I’m tired and now most of my day is ruined. Cigars and binging shows I guess.

Benzo withdrawals are hell. When I quit drinking the doc had me on Ativan but only for a month. We did a slow taper so I didn't really notice anything. My SIL has been on a pretty high dose of Xanax for years. She is totally fucked when her doc retires because she never should have gotten the scrip in the first place. It has done absolutely nothing to help her and she drinks while she's on it.
