they have a lot of the materials to produce evs and the infrastructure needed in the state, but their laws make it pretty much impossible to open a new mine. so it will all come from slave or child labor in china or poor countries.
I shouldn't want Americans to suffer, but I'd be amused to watch the panic if world tensions escalate and China tells us to fuck off and won't export anything to us anymore. Half of America would collapse in due time.

I wonder where California politicians think all their electricity is going to come from.
Was that clip posted here where a city unveils their new electric charging stations at a company and then a reporter asks how their charging stations are powered? She refused to answer because we all know the answer

I mean, we all know it's going to have to come from fossil fuels, but California has started closing nuclear plants and will not allow any new ones to be built even if federal regulators approve. Solar and wind isn't nearly enough to keep the lights on and the EVs charged.

And I can't wait to watch California completely collapse to their ideological stupidity. California is exactly why the electoral college is important. Those poor northern california rural people are fucked over because of basically 2 cities.

the thing is they have so many natural advantages - great weather, varied and beautiful topography, ports for goods from the east, the tech industry, the film industry, agriculture - historically built on oil and mining, though those are too awful for them to think about.

bad governance will continue to take a long time to fuck it up completely. my sister still loves living there

Maybe this should be in the HOTD thread...I dunno.

This lady is going to lose her black cred for this...

https://www.newsweek.com/when-diversity-casting-hurts-plot-it-hurts-black-actors-viewers-opinion-1736903

These desperate attempts to foster diversity blur the lines between aspirational fantasy and historical anachronism, which makes it hard to decipher how much of the impact of a story is lost when modern preoccupations with diversity and inclusion collide with unpleasant historical, mythological and symbolic truths.

It is possible and important to do diversity properly. But it's also fine sometimes not to do it at all, especially when the occasion does not call for diversity casting and when the choice to do so impacts the subtext and symbolic dimension of a narrative.

Of course she's right. If the Targs hadn't been all about inbreeding and keeping their line pure, maybe I could buy that somewhere along the way a Summer Islander married into the family or he's adopted or some shit. But he looks incredibly silly with a blond wig (his character is technically a Velaryon, but they were originally from Valyria just like the Targs, and were the Targs' closest allies - lots of intermarriages). Even so, not all Targs or Velaryons were blond - look at Jon Snow for an in-show example.

The Game of Thrones universe already had opportunities for "diverse" casting without fucking up existing characters. They could have written in some black characters from Naath or the Summer Islands or other places we haven't seen much of. Hell, they could have just made the Velaryons black - I don't know that we actually saw any in the original series. It's just weird and off-putting that they cast a black guy to play a white character, put a blond wig on his head and then expected everyone not to notice.

I wasn't really paying that much attention and have never really cared that much about the backstory. I assumed she married a black guy to piss off her family for not letting her rule.

She nails it.

In other work news: Ben Shapiro and the Daily Wire decided to show up at some conference called "Podcast Movement". The video shows what Shapiro did. He stood at his booth and took pictures with fans, smiling and politely exchanging pleasantries.

The result? A transperson was there and tweeted to her 150 followers how threatened and unsafe she was because of his presence. The result? The Podcast Movement issued a graveling apology "Accepting full responsibility for the harm Shapiro caused by his presence". It goes on and on, it's quite a long apology. By smiling, shaking hands, taking pictures, and not discussing politics whatsoever.

One person there thinks all the triggered people are pussies:

Exit quote: “@starplanes, if someone’s opposing viewpoints or mere presence makes you feel unsafe, then you are, by definition, a weak person. And, your weakness does nothing to help the LGBTQ+ community. The gays at Stonewall stood up to the cops, you can’t stand up to a fast talking Jew?”

And yet…how frightening was Shapiro’s appearance? So horrific that his own company is warning viewers before they watch video of it:

I wish all of these companies would realize that twitter mobs have a short attention span. Just ignore the fucks and it will go away.

Libs of tik tok banned again just after another WAPO hit piece which shows the collusion and narrative pushing of anyone who just reposts actual public videos. She reposted the Boston Children's hospital videos about transing children, and the hospital, which produced these slick videos but apparently was unprepared for any negative pushback then claims, without facts, that they are in danger and being "threatened" without any facts to back this up.

Any unpopular idea that gets pointed out now like questioning the FBI raid on Mar a Lago is considered "dangerous" and "threatening" like owning a betsy ross flag. Any complaint is now a threat, but parading outside and trying to kill SCOTUS judges you disagree with is just fine.

Looney anti-gun groups demanding that credit card companies track and report all "suspicious" gun and ammo purchases to the Feds.

 This is wrong in so many ways, aside from the fact that they'd have to increase the ATF 20x to act on all of those very subjectively "suspicious" purchases.

given what this unlawful illegitimate admin just did with the IRS, I don't think that's something to joke about.

Unfortunately it was no joke. There was a very long dissertation written accompanying the video. Side note, to no one's surprise, the guy who filmed the video was a early 20s gay black guy with the pride flag in the background.

Definitely. Speaking of armed citizen....These days, I wouldn't help any stranger. It's not worth the headache and legal risks to me. I'd like to think, if in a setting with a mass shooter, like that Indiana kid popping the shooter, I'd do the same. Something involved a kid, sure.

But a random adult getting robbed, attacked, whatever. Nope, I'm ignoring it, maybe call the cops. But I'm not shooting someone and all that comes with it when odds are that person is an ungrateful cunt who hate people like me to begin with.
