I had a Cuban buddy explain the Hispanic pecking order to me back in the '70s. Cliff note version is Cubans are the "most hispanic" since Columbus killed off all the Indians in Cuba, but there were too many to wipe out in Puerto Rico, Mexico, South America, etc. Cubans are the "purest" hispanics....everyone else are "Indians" and not "hispanic."
