For years, Sonny worked for my Great Uncle as a painter (my unc was a Contractor and built many of the homes in town in the 50s/60s). Unc said, "The man was so lazy, he painted laying down". My dad was Sonny's first busboy when he was 13 or 14 and stayed until he took a manager job at Winn Dixie when he married my mom at 20. Fun, annoying story: My dad got his friend a job at Sonny's when they were 16. Several years after my dad left, Sonny gave his friend a restaurant for being his oldest employee. That guy still owns the Sonny's in St. Augustine today.
Another fun story: When I was living in the alachua area around 2003-2004, I'd get pickup from that Sonny's (the only one Sonny's family still owned, technically his son Tommy ran it). They had this really rude, obvious young black girl taking orders on the phone. She'd answer, "Wut you want"? and she was ruder in person. One text to Sonny and I got her fired
