⚡ACHTUNG!⚡ Real Estate opportunity for EG

For all you Jax-tards, Blackwater bought the Regency Square Mall.

This was my mall. I shopped there. I played video games there. I sat on Santa's lap there. My family and i ate at the Piccadilly Cafeteria there. I worked at the Chick-Fil-A there. I went to the movies there.

There was a time that it was actually cool, believe it or not.

A retrospective:

Yeah, that was my mall as well till the Avenues popped up. Best punch I ever got on my older brother was in front of a crowd there. He kept hitting my heal with one of those large shopping bag as I was walking and I turned around and popped in in the face. I don't know if the punch or the crowds reaction hurt him more.

It opened in '67, I was a sophomore at Englewood HS and we all thought it was the greatest place to hangout. We would hit the Piccadilly cafeteria on Sunday after church. Good memories.

It’s goddamn legend. Our football field is next to a cornfield. When the players came back from the summer out of shape, HOF coach Glen Brasel told them to jerk the corn out from the roots. That is much different than shucking corn you city boy

Hey, we had 1 mexican and 1 black family in high school
Saw a question recently that I had never thought about. What did they do with asian, hispanic kids during segregation? We only hear about the split with Black/Whites. School pictures never showed anything but blacks or whites. I assume they sent them to "colored schools"?

Hah, I've never thought about that. I'm going to ask my dad about that. He was in school when integration happened. I've heard quite a few stories about how ugly that time was here in Gainesville. A couple short versions of my favorites:

The white kids were let out 20 minutes before the blacks because of daily fights. Why the white kids first? Allegedly it was the blacks starting the fights.

My dad got jumped by a group of blacks in the bathroom, let him unconscious with his head busted open. He said you could clearly see the outline of the small caliber pistol he carried in his front pocket for the rest of the school year.

Another time, not sure if this is before or a later year, but he got jumped again by a group. This one, people were around and came to help equal out the fight. The school called my grandma. By the time they called her, she barely caught my dad already on his way back to the school with a shotgun

The population of my junior high was about 50% black. There were days when I had to walk home and I feared for my life. Nothing happened to me, thankfully, but I saw some things. There was an ongoing beef between the blacks and a group of white "skaters" that sometimes resulted in some pretty big brawls.

Most of my dangerous times at high school age were with other white guys, not even my school. Just wrong place, wrong time, bully types out in groups looking to fight. Usually it was at least 5 on 2, but I always got out of it. One time a group of blacks saved our ass at the mall late at night  A local football star that made it to the NFL (Adrian Peterson) was ready to whoop some ass that night. We had mutual friends and he always loved my truck....fucking God send that night. A group of white guys said we had to fight through them to get to my truck. Parking lot is basically empty, it's 11pm, no cops or security guard around. And Adrian and pretty much half the SFHS football team show up. Had a quick word with Adrian and a couple minutes later, those guys were gone.

Between my terrible bad luck and my big mouth, it's a miracle I've never gotten my ass beat

Another legacy of genx is the horrors of desegregation. My town was too small for it to be an issue, but some of my classmates at Purdue from Indy or Chicago had some bad shit go down. Many others went to catholic school

Also though, there just weren’t a lot of Asians in the US until recently. My mom was always shocked my Philippino friend Alice “didn’t have an accent” lol

My hs was 15% Hispanic. Some of the girls kicked my ass in gym for talking to their guys.

Yeah, Jax made it a point to be 50/50. Saw a lot of stuff as well, I lived in a white neighborhood surrounded by section 8 apartments. There was one white kid, who we all hated, who would start shit with the black kids. One day, 10 of them jumped him when we got off the bus. None of us helped him because he was a dick, and kinda deserved it. Adults stopped their cars and one woman yelled at us for not helping him. We basically said what we thought of him. I did get jumped several times, bike stolen out from under me, rocks thrown while I rode my bike etc... but never got Juggs dad's treatment.

I graduated HS in '69, the only black kids we had in school were in special ed classes, so I never had the pleasure of dealing with blacks in school until junior college. Thank goodness.
