No, they don't question it because most of them are benefitting from it.My take on all these USAID grants. I think they should fulfill the goal of spreading American ideals and culture around the world. And I don't mean acceptance of child sex changes. I mean they should show the world that good things happen when you have certain freedoms and a value system that encourages innovation and hard work. I don't mind spending the money if it results in more freedom and more respect of the United States.
But instead, we have... whatever this is.
My question is - has there been no Congressional oversight? We have this big agency - consuming like 1% of the federal budget - and hasn't anyone been questioning how they spend their money?
But I'll also disagree to an extent. The way America has always done it was in a bullish way, forcing "democracy" and what has that gotten us? We created terrorism, we got more countries to hate us, we created puppet regimes....but have we truly changed anyone at all? Japan and South Korea maybe? But we nuked Japan to change them. The middle east? Hah, no one is changing those cavemen.
Send aid if a small asian country gets wiped out by a tsunami, no problem there really. But spreading American ideals and culture isn't going to work. Their cultures are thousands of years older than ours, we're the newbs on the block and even if our way is better, it won't work.
