but yeah I feel like they should be more "pretty" dudes, he seems more like a Stark.

Yeah, he was too scruffy and rough around the edges to be what we think of as a Targ. He could definitely be a Stark wihout that stupid wig.

I'm a little disappointed that in the 2 seconds we saw the Stark, he was a chubby uggo. There too, they should have casted someone more in line with what we thought the Starks of being as seen in GOT. Definitely some continuity issues

It wasn't the original - mainly because there was just one storyline. GOT was cool because there were a ton of storylines at the same time.

in terms of getting angry over what his brother said, I'm sure there was some french or british king in the middle ages that killed over less than that.

i do like the Manchester britpop/postpunk casting: the hand was in an oasis video and the king was the manager of Joy Division in 24 hour party people

Facebook tells me that the king in the opening minutes, Jaherys or whatever plyaed Bib Fortuna in Return of the Jedi.

I think things will start getting interesting when...

(I don't think a spoiler is necessary here, since it should be obvious what is going to happen, but just in case)
the king dies.

They could have slapped any old man to sit there, look decrepit, and not say anything

I think he's a pretty good actor and did a good job of showing the conflict about killing his wife for the kid, like that he's not a monster.

Juggs is talking about the King that named the current king his heir.

Finally finished the 1st episode.

The king, Viserys?, seems like a decent enough guy but Daemon's appraisal of him seemed spot on.

Daemon is a cocky, arrogant, ambitious, dirty asshole, but he doesn't seem "Evil" just yet. I liked his they showed him to be a good fighter but not some invincibile ninja. I was waiting for him to cheap shot the knight that bested him but was glad he didn't. Too predictable.

Most of the tits so far have been C level at best.

I told ya. A big casting fail in the tits department compared to GOT, which hit it out of the park most of the time.

Agree on Daemon. I fully expected him to shove a sword through that Dornishman's back. I find it interesting they chose a Dornish for that part, maybe it because Dorn was the only country to not succumb to the Targaryens? But they gave him a lot of character in one show. It was easily the highlight of the show, I think. You're right, he did nail his assessment of his brother and the court, even if it was out of self interest. He seemed to show a little guilt over it at the brothel and despite his words, his actions with his niece seemed loving enough. I am curious to see how the war gets started and see if we don't have 2 "villians".

Yeah in the show they said he was Dornish, but I think in the book he's from the "Dornish marches," which are part of the Stormlands and the Reach. So near Dorne, but not actually Dorne. Maybe there's enough dispute with Dorne that the marches were contested at that point in history, I don't know.

I'm looking at a map of the GOT world. First, I didn't realize Dany was actually so far away and how use Esteros is. They always talked about the narrow sea, but based on this map, she was still half a world away from even getting near the narrow sea.

I just assumed the Reach and Stormlands were further north (and didn't realize they were on opposite coasts). Their location doesn't seem to make a lot of sense why Robert was raised in the Veil...or Ned for that matter. It's not addressed in the shows, so I have no idea why either of them were raised in the Veil. Or why a guy from so far south was betrothed to a Stark, even if he was Ned's friend.

Robert and Ned were raised in the Vail as "wards" for different reasons. Ned was a second son, not expected to inherit Winterfell, so he was sent to Jon Arryn to be fostered as kind of a goodwill alliance-building type of gesture, perhaps to eventually wed a female Arryn child. Robert's parents were both killed, so he didn't have anyone to teach him how to be a leader. Jon Arryn had no kids of his own but was a well-respected lord.

I tried to read the books. Book 1 of Ice and Fire, half way through and HBO was damn near word for word. I found it hard to stay interested when I knew everything that was happening. I realize that didn't last long and they strayed from the books a good bit pretty quickly. I just couldn't trudge on through book 1 and then gave the entire set to my nephew.
