Yeah weird hurricanes never shift or change strength
Yet people never think it will happen to them.

Charley did a fucking loop de loop and hit us twice. Of course they're entirely unpredictable. People also have short memories.

I think your memory is failing you, Juggs. SW florida was hit by both Charley in 2004 and Irma in 2018. It was Ivan or something like that that looped back around.

As someone else stated above, the path of Ian was very similar to charley except much bigger and far slower-moving, meaning people were in the eyewall for hours. Last year Ida hit us similarly. just hours of getting hammered by Cat 4 winds.

I'm from Punta Gorda and my parents and other family are there still. Luckily everyone made it ok with minimal property damage. They evacuated for Irma in 2018 and it was such a stressful experience (my parents have 2 dogs plus my elderly grandma) that my dad decided to stay put this time. They are still waiting for power but I've seen several of my friends have already gotten power back in Charlotte County.

Lee county really got hammered and that storm surge was insane. It's so difficult to evacuate, especially in the penisula of florida. where can you go that is out of the "cone"? Last Monday my parents were thinking about evacuating to Naples because it was supposed to be out of the way. Somehow a plan needs to be worked out because the number of major hurricanes hasn't been decreasing lately.

It is weird how Katrina was all bush’s fault not the lax corrupt state and local government (didn’t the mayor go to jail) but the media is already looking to blame desantis
jefferson parish president I believe was charged and went to jail. He evacuated the pump operators for the parish immediately west of new orleans and of course most of it ended up flooding as a result.

sorry didn't really say that clearly - I think that the mayor went to jail for some other corruption charge? maybe I'm confusing that with the person you mention.

My bigger point was that Katrina is largely, nationally considered a failure of Bush/Fed Gov but it feels like the media is looking to blame Desantis

Of course they are, they don’t gaf about being honest, they’re w/o any integrity, and DeSantis will mop the floor w anyone the Dems put against him, so they’re scared AF.

DeSantis says Looting will not be tolerated in the aftermath of Ian. You don't want to be peaking behind someone's house.....because remember, we're a 2nd amendment state".

That stupid twat Joy from the View says that's racist and it didn't take DeSantis long to return to segregation.

Huh? DeSantis says looting will not be tolerated and Joy jumps to race. Sounds to me like Joy is saying that only black people loot.

Biden personally calls to thank (and released a statement) a Coast Guard member for heroically saving lives after Ian.

And then the guy gets discharged for not being vaccinated.

Three days to rebuild a bridge. Granted, it's temporary, but look what can happen when you strip red tape out of things.
Also... Publix!

A whole lot of "meh", so far. Lost power for about 30 minutes last night. 2.25" of rain, but just misting right now.

East coast is getting a ton of erosion, though.

some rain, very little wind. But what did anyone actually expect? It barely made it to a hurricane, hit, and immediately weakens.
We had the opposite. Very little rain but a ton of wind. Lost some big branches..

More trees to chop.

I keep hearing we're supposed to get some wind tonight, but that makes no sense. The eye will be past us by then. We should be starting to see wind given location unless it's weakened dramatically down to less than a summer storm.

Yeah the roofer never came back to fix the main seam that was leaking on my roof, so I'm watching my spots to see how bad it gets. Fucking cunts always try to get out of fixing their fuckups.
