šŸŠGators Napier-era Shlinks

Gators
So with Napier's military-like dedication to detail and his unwillingness to just take anyone, i.e. all of Dan's recruits, or his holdovers for that matter who are not committed, the class is obviously ranked lower than we're used to.

But, the guy has a budget committed to recruiting his way. He legitimately is forming the "army" he promised. He is doing is own evaluations on kids, which leads to looking at some kids who are seemingly underrated (in fairness, this was something Dan did as well).

This kid Roper from GA plays in the state's highest classification, 7A. He is getting high praise from guys like Luginbill. He put up ridiculous numbers and seems like a high character kid as well. Not saying he's can't miss, but from what I've seen so far, if Napier likes him, no reason why I shouldn't.

Also, if you're into paid content, I got the annual On3 membership for $10 while they had their promo going. Not sure if it's still going on, but so far some good stuff there.

I think Dan did it because he couldn't recruit 5 star players.

Couldn't or wouldn't?

Yes.

Wouldn't because he couldn't?

I mean, recruiting wasn't his strong suit. But I believe part of it was his ego. There were definitely 5-star kids he wanted, but I also think he believes he is such a strong developer that he didn't need to have all those top classes. I could forgive an inability to recruit more than I could an unwillingness. I think it was more the latter. I mean, neither has any place at Florida, but I think he was more not wanting to do it as much as it was needed.

Maybe it was his ego in his coaching skills that led him to not recruit better athletes, but that should have been an issue in year 1 to any school. You don't want the SEC by recruiting 3 stars and hoping they were all underrated. Maybe he knew he couldn't compete with Saban, Smart, etc.

SOS wasnā€™t a great recruiter, and could compensate for that with his schemes, hiring good coaches, etc. If SOS younger & coaching today, bet your ass heā€™d be recruiting. DM will never be anything remotely on the level of SOS, but maybe he thought he was the 2nd coming of SOS?

Nice, didnā€™t even think about kids who were down to a couple teams and all the coaches changed.

Would guess NIL will play a big role this year & forward, and BN will maximize on the opportunity, whereas DM would sit around with his thumb up his ass, while many programs passed us by, even more than what happened under his watchā€¦ where was the UAA admin while all this was happening, asleep at the wheel evidently

Yeah it was a different time too; the SEC coaching was pretty terrible too, they were either staid (dinardo was at lsu my god) or stupidly tried to imitate sos (fulmer)

You canā€™t make comedy like this up! Was also hilarious that their OC is leaving for OR, timing (this am) was wonderful

And let's be honest....Miami going on probation helped Spurrier's early recruiting a lot.

Just like Bowdens career taking off after we went on probation twice in the 80ā€™s
