šŸŠGators Napier-era Shlinks

Gators
Thanks for putting this up, Doc and for starting a new shlinks. Likely my greatest/only real contribution to TGB over the years.

Mullen says "sometimes you have to check your own ego as a head coach" at least a year late on that epiphany

Trob is a fucking douchebag. He went scorched earth on UF after he left.

Nothing he did or said was near as bad as the shit that Todd did before we paid him like $6M to create a toxic locker room and not recruit for 4 years.

Oh I don't care if UF hires him, just saying he left a bad taste in people's mouths so I doubt he would get offered the job.

5 candidates according to SDS, this guy looks interesting:

Doug Belk (Defensive coordinator, Houston Cougars)
This would cost money but it would be a coup dā€™etat. Belk was targeted by Kirby Smart at Georgia and Steve Sarkisian at Texas last offseason, but both coaches just pursued Belk as a position coach. Houston countered by dismissing defensive coordinator Joe Cauthen and promoting Belk. The result? The Cougars have a top 10 defense nationally in 2021, powered by an elite run defense that ranks 7th nationally in rushing defense and 5th in yards allowed per rush attempt.

Belk has strong ties to the southeast. He grew up in Valdosta, Ga., played for FCS Power Valdosta State, and served as their defensive coordinator. He has also coached defensive backs at West Virginia and served under Nick Saban as cornerbacks coach before returning to Dana Holgersen when Holgersen took the job at Houston.

Heā€™s considered a marvelous recruiter and one of the sportā€™s bright young minds. This would be a terrific hire.

Couple on the list of 5, including strong, had interest in joining the staff, met with Grantham and backed away.

Don't hate the list. On paper, Belk would seem like the safest bet in that list. I wouldn't hate the Stoops hire. And I'd be ok giving MM a shot at recruiting.

I could live with any on the list. MM would probably knock it out of the park on recruiting.

I would think so. His S. FL ties and being a young coach would be great, especially while FSU & Miami are also a shit show.

Too bad he couldn't catch an easy INT vs FSU in 98....:eg:

Any of those are likely significantly better than the dipshit weā€™ve endured the last 4 years.

He was all gator, if I remember correctly he was the one who would always jump on top of the gaggle of players before games.

I read that too. I think it was a Delatorre article and said that UF offered TRob a Co-DC title. It seems at least the powers that be at UF are ok with him

They are, it was all Grantham's salty ass that made him decline.
