There's a LOT of disinformation out there about him - and very few facts.
What we do know is that: on his passport, he lists his sex as female (which is apparently enough for the IOC); and due to suspicions at prior international boxing competitions, he has been tested and found to have XY chromosomes.
Left-wingers and trans activists are insisting that he was born with female-presenting genitalia and I've even heard some of them say he has a uterus. None of which they can source of course, it's all bullshit. On the other hand, there's a lot of right-wingers who are speculating that he has internal testicles (like Caster Semenya), and outward-appearing female sex characteristics are just a part of whatever issue he was born with. That is also not based in any kind of study or medical documentation.
They used to do sex testing in the Olympics, but that ended in 2000 for whatever reason. It came to a bit of a head in 2016, when three runners - including Semenya - in the women's 800m race all had sex disorders. All three were XY, all three had testosterone levels consistent with male athletes, and all three were from African countries. That leads some folks to believe that certain nations who don't usually do well in the Olympics actively search out men with these kinds of incredibly rare birth defects so they can compete as women. The IAAF (the governing body of track and field) now has a testosterone rule - these men can compete as women if they take testosterone-suppressing drugs to bring their levels down to a certain level.
Of course, this dude and the other guy from Taiwan could put a stop to all the controversy and mystery by submitting to a couple of tests (most reasonably, in my opinion, to check their testosterone levels). But they'd rather milk the sympathy they get from rich white liberals and trans activists who believe they are true and honest women.
