Freshman sensation Liv McGill exploded for a season-high 29 points on Thursday night - leading Florida to a stunning upset over favourites Alabama in the Southeastern Conference Tournament's second round.

It was a memorable evening for Florida's (16-16) women's basketball team after the Gators secured a 63-61 victory against quality competition - their first against a ranked opposition since 2022.


University of Florida was on a three-game losing streak against Alabama spanning from Feb. 29, 2024 to Feb. 6, 2025 before securing the win in Thursday's matchup. They will now move on to play the number three seed LSU in Friday's quarterfinals.

McGill revealed after the victory: "Throughout the game I felt pretty confident." She said that prior to the first whistle blast she had talked to her coaches - before chatting and praying with Laila Reynolds.
