Just a question

Post by UFGirlluvr »

Would you have your team lose a lot of out of conference games or have more loses during the conference schedule? Right now there is a 3 game difference in the overall records of UK and UF but UK is up 2 games in the conference. As for your title run reference I guess everyone forgets about UK's 3 straight championship game run from 96-98 winning 2 out of 3. Florida's record looks wonderful beating up on the state of Florida. It's almost similar to (gasp) TOSU beating up on the state of Ohio in football. Just wondering

Joe...you can bang on our schedule all you want. You obviously wouldn't have been able to handle the schedule, what with the likes of Gardner Webb and San Diego.

We have played much tougher schedules the past few years because we had teams that could handle it, this team, Billy knew wouldn't have been able to.

The better question is: If you had to invest in one team's future right now...where would your money go? I'd put my money on Florida.

Future as far as this year or in future season because if thats the case I would go with Kentucky. Gillespie has proven to be a solid recruiter and PPat has shown that. It will take a year or two but considering with what Billy G has dealt with in his first year as far as injuries to 2 starters from last year and being left with very little division I talent I would go with Kentucky. Kentucky is a flagship school for basketball in the SEC and the country. How people are jealous of UF in football around the SEC that is how Kentucky is viewed in basketball. To have a team this year with such players as a Ramon Harris or Michael Porter and still have the 2nd seed going into the SEC tourney so far is solid. I would rather play the tough games against the UNC's, Memphis's and Louisvilles of the world. Those loses will look a lot better than losing to the LSU's of the world. UK has a solid class coming in next year to give some Patrick some scoring help and Kentucky will be back in the hunt. There have been 4 coaches to win a championship at Kentucky and I bet in the next 4 years there will be a 5th.

I meant future seasons. You seem awful confident that Gillespie will still be around in a few years. I'm not so confident he'll be there NEXT year. Give Patterson some help??? I'm not sure he'll be there next year either. UF's recruiting has been far superior to that of Kentucky's of late and Kentucky basketball is a lot more like FSU football - a dying program still clinging to the past - than UF's - a program whose best years are still ahead. Our schedule is light this year, no one is disputing that, but had we not had a light schedule this year, we'd have no chance at the tournament, whereas now we're still in the discussion - in coming years, I suspect our schedule will be extremely formidable.

Billy G might have been our second choice but you know what in the long run Im glad he was so Billy D couldn't pull the little show he did with the Magic with Kentucky. Florida's best years better be in front of them because up until 2 years ago there really wasn't anything in the history to be too proud of. Patrick's parents have said numerous times they want him in college for at least 3 years so don't worry about Patrick going anywhere. Except for the 04's and this years class how has UF out recruited Kentucky?Even if you want to throw in the class before the 04's with Walsh and Roberson so be it but where did that get you with wins in the tourney. Tubby didn't recruit and that is why he is a Gopher now. The class this year at Kentucky is a class Billy G inherited so give it a year and we will see. Kentucky isn't clinging to its past but it is nice to have a past to celebrate and look back at. What was Florida going to look back at? The wonderful Dwayne Schintzius years? Florida's out of conference schedule has never been anything great if you really want to look back at it.Florida's SOS is at 118 and Kentucky's is a solid 26.

It's not our fault. We really thought those teams on our schedule were going to be NCAA tourney teams when we scheduled them.

At this point, I think UF has done exactly the correct thing needed to get this years team where it needs to be. In the next few years when they have more talent on the team I would like to see them play a much better OCC schedule. But to tell the truth, there isn't much of a reason to play a very tough OCC in college basketball. It doesn't benefit your team that much when it comes tourney time. As long as you've played a decent OCC schedule your ok.

I have a question. Why is Jethro Tull's Livin' in the Past playing in my mind?

Good to see you, Joe.

I guess some smack needed to be talked, now that the last three SEC championships are such a distant memory.
