In the opening round of Olympic competition, UF alumnus Abby Wambach scored a goal to lead the US team to victory over France. Scoring early, the French team went up 2-0 after 14 minutes of play. Wambach scored 5 minutes later. Team USA ultimately prevailed, thanks to two goals by Alex Morgan and one goal scored by Carli Lloyd.
Next, the American team faces Colombia, on Saturday, July 28.
