Man, this guy is really pissing me off with his comments. Kudos to Foley and the SEC Commissioner for shutting him down.

I am really looking forward to the UT game this year! I sense an ass whuppin on UT coming on. Hopefully Meyer will use his timeouts like he did against UGly in Jax. If it were me, I would shake his hand and tell him "Welcome to the SEC" after the game.

What an asshole!

THIS FIASCO
Now I really could care less about what Lane Kiffen said yesterday and I have been reading all of the various articles and blogs. Then I stumbled onto some articles regarding Bryce Brown, and the other possible recruits which have put off signing and began to wonder.

Is this whole fiasco completely orchestrated to keep UT in the minds of these recruits?

If you are in a battle with other schools for these highly touted recruits:

1) You want to keep your name in their heads.
2) You want them to think that they are going to be a part of the most watched rivalry games in the country.
3) Some people THRIVE on the "Us Against The World" Mentality
4) Others thrive on being seen as the "Bad Guys" (Bill Belichick is the king of this)

So while all of the other schools are patting themselves on the back and are waiting (but still making an effort for these recruits) Kiffen has decided to stir the pot and in response has UT's name (for better or worse) on every major news outlet, every major sports blog talking about UT and how we have been beaten down over the past few years and are gonna have to NOW PROVE ourselves otherwise Kiffen is gonna look stupid.

If I was a recruit and was not turned off by the talk, I would be REALLY interested in UT now because while we are NOT THE TOP of the Football world, when we play UF and UA we will be the center of football universe (gameday) and everyone will be watching to see what happens.

If I played football, I would wanna be a part of that.

I could be completely wrong, but it was just a thought.

Great post...

personally, I think the shartstorm among Vol fans is due to the fact that many of them are getting hit in the face with a ice cold bucket of attitude that was missing from the "aw shucks" type of staff that we've had at UT for GENERATIONS.

Someone on another thread made a good point. Kiffin is no dummy. He made statements earlier this month about negative recruiting in the SEC. Then at a Vol function he made the statement. In all probability he knew it was not a violation, and knew that the press was present when he made that comment. It makes alot of sense, it sent Meyer and the other coaches a message.

One thing that I thought was interesting was that Foley had to call the SEC office to confirm it wasn't a violation. He wasn't sure.

Some days it isn't worth chewing through the restraints....

Yeah, wouldn't it be funny if Kiffin knew the rule all along, but, Meyer had to check with the SEC to make sure.

That's right. Kiffin is SO smart that he actually PLANNED to say something completely asinine in order to rile up the Gay-Turds and send them a message that he's going to be a tough coach.

Meanwhile, Jeremy Foley is so dumb that he didn't even know the rule and had to call the SEC to find out what it was.

I must be maturing because I have successfully resisted the urge to reply to that thread. I tried to push a few buttons in another thread on the topic, but no one wanted to play.

Give new Tennesseee coach Lane Kiffin credit. It seems whatever he says these days causes some kind of controversy - and generates the much-needed publicity his program is craving right now.

In a Sports Illustrated article this week, Kiffin was quoted as saying that since he was hired one person had been fired and others had been "run off.'' He was talking about an employee who arrived 25 minutes late to pick him up on time from the airport last month.

But UT athletic director Mike Hamilton disupted that in a column in the Knoxville News Sentinel, saying Kiffin doesn't have the power to just randomly fire people without going through proper procedures.

"You can't just fire anybody at Tennessee, particularly when you're talking about non-contract employees,'' Hamilton said. "There's a process."

^^^That's what I think too...I knew he'd have to come in and make a statement, but it comes off as sort of being rather desperate. There's ways to excite your fan base without totally coming off as an idiot...subtle jabs at your opponents (like Meyer calling FSU the SOW) is fine. But bloviating like he has is just...well, sort of childish and ridiculous.

let's face it, being childish and ridiculous is appealing to SOME high school athletes....and as far as having to accomplish something before being 'allowed' to shoot off, i'll just remind y'all that as we stand right now, our 2009 records are all the same...as far as UT is concerned, they'll not have another opportunity to say that we're on equal footing again.

Other than directly defending the accusations of cheating, I hope we continue to 'speak softly' and 'carry our big a$$ stick' into the swamp in Sept.
