Lane Kiffin in at Tennessee / Philip Fulmer Appreciation Day

Post by Toothy »

Even though the big story is Tennessee signing up some nepotism California punk-ass to continue running its ship into the ground --

http://tennessee.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=882760

-- I would remind us all to raise a glass to Philip Fulmer, a good man, a man who of late did much to help the Florida Gators. Even as his ass rides out of town on the business end of a rail, let us raise our doughnuts in toast and hope his sagelike and tranquil presence continues to guide the Volunteers, in spirit if not in fleshiness, for many autumn Saturdays in years to come.

God bless and Godspeed, chunky friend.

I'm going to miss my Phat Fill jokes.....

It was kind of like the organization I used to belong to - Gators for Ray Goff.

I will miss Phil. Here's hoping that his successor has the same success against us that Phil did.

One of these days, someone is gonna have to explain to me what Lane ever did to be considered so highly as a coach, other than be Monte Kiffin's son. Okay, so he was an assistant at USC. BFD. Ole Miss already burned through one guy with that on his resume, as did the Tennessee Titans. And Lane sucked at Oakland. You can use the Al Davis excuse all you want. He still sucked.

On a bright note, one of the local stations had Monte Kiffin on to be interviewed after the Bucs game today and at the end of it, all the hosts were congratulating Monte for his son's landing of the UT job. One of the hosts happened to be Gator great Brad Culpepper, whose congratulations went something like this, "Congrats to your son, but he's still gonna get his ass whupped by the Gators next year." I about fell down laughing.

Monte may go to UT to help his son out. That would lead more concern than Lane.

^^^I tend to agree with you Todd and a1...someone mentioned on ESPN that they would like to know who Lane's agent is because he is doing a heck of a sales job. Probably the same guy who sold Jimbo to FSU! LOL
Okay, let's try this!

well i for one am celebrating a little bit. though i'm going to miss fat phil in a "can't tell the KK doughnut jokes anymore" kind of way, i'm hopeful that kiffin will restore them to their proper place in the sec east (third). hopefully just good enough to be ranked in the teens and boost our strength of schedule but never good enough to beat us.

Local Tampa radio station WDAE is reporting that Monte Kiffin is definitely going to UT to be defensive coordinator with his son. Local gossip is basically along these lines: Monte signed a two year contract extension last year, so after this season, he had one more season to go and was then probably going to retire from coaching. Basically, this is his one shot at working with his son. He'll be missed greatly around these parts.

WDAE is also reporting that other members of Kiffin's staff are going to include Bill Callahan, the former Nebraska and Oakland Raiders head coach; and David Reaves off of Spurrier's staff.

Callahan is a funny choice, in my opinion, as my biggest memory of him is the night the Bucs pasted his Raiders in the Super Bowl.

Reaves is more interesting, as he has ties to both USC and UF and is supposed to be an up and coming recruiter. Apparently, he and Lane Kiffin are related through marriage.

Reaves was the QB coach at USC. They had two shitty QB's this year. UT won't be good.
