I seem to recall the speculation then being that Gore would win the electoral vote and lose the popular.

i just watched the movie recount...kevin spacey's character ron klain scoffed at the mention that gore had had an 11 point lead in the october polls.

I believe Kerry had a decent lead in October as well.

It ain't over 'til it's over, but I think the electoral maps are still in Obama's favor even if the popular vote gap is closing.

If Obama wins Florida, North Carolina or Ohio then he will be the next President. I don't think there is any reasonable scenario that McCain could lose any of those three states and still get to 270.

Yes, but remember: the Democrats don't close well. I don't think there's anything settled yet.

It's gonna be a newsy weekend, I bet.

I'm surprised it's as close as it is with as crappy the W has been.

I wonder how much insanity is going on behind the scenes these days. My bet is quite a damn bit. No doubt the Pubs did their best to force an October Surprise that couldn't be forced because of the economic collapse.

not speaking specifically about either party...speaking about both if anything...i think that if there's something to be brought up, it best be brought up late....classic strategy...bring it up late so your opponent doesn't have the time or forum to refute it.

of course - obama doesn't need to resort to that because he is so way ahead...a tactic such as that could backfire and cost him votes....mccain's got to have something occur during the last few days in order for him to compete...i can see him utilizing such a strategy....gotta be sunday/monday.

with early voting, though, it may already be too late.

do you think people utilize early vote if they've not made their mind up? maybe 100% of the voters have made their mind up already...dunno.

the very few who have not made up their mind will not be a large enough population to change the outcome of this election.

I don't know what the hell you're talking about, Rad... Gore did not have an 11 point lead in October. At least not in any reputable polls.

Here's what I've found:

CNN/Time poll: Bush holds edge
(10-27-00)

Poll: Voters divided over whether Gore, Bush would better handle Mideast crisis
(10-16-00)

Poll: Presidential race a dead heat
(10-06-00)

CNN/Time Poll: Gore, Bush tied; 1 in 5 voters undecided
(9-08-00)

Poll: Gore trails Bush on eve of Democratic convention
(8-11-00)
