Rad, you need to change my party affiliation or remove me from either list. I've been a member of the GOP since 1988.

^^^waste of a vote and a copout. just my opinion.
Do you think a vote for anyone other than Obama or McCain is a waste and copout? Or just my write in of Paul?

I'm honestly not sure how you could expect me to endorse either of those two candidates for President, given my personal beliefs. None of the minor candidates live up to the litmus test I give Presidential candidates...so what would you have me do? Bite my tongue and come up with some calculus to determine which of Obama/McCain is my lesser of two evils?

I was raised in such a way that I never knew who my parents were voting/had voted for. It's my personal preference to practice both politics and religion quietly. Anything else is unseemly (for me).

yes, voting for a candidate besides mccain or obama right now does nothing. the primaries are the time for deciding the candidates. the fact is that you making a point of NOT voting for mccain and obama is akin to someone saying, i'm not going to eat this week because i don't like my options. tough shit, you have to eat, and if you don't eat what you have been given the option of, don't bitch about being hungry.

it's a matter of fact that the next president will be either barack obama or john mccain, you have a chance to choose which of the two you will prefer. you have all the right to campaign for a third party candidate or a different candidate during the proper time. obama was not my first choice as a dem, but i'm not going to write in my first choice. right now, obama is my choice because my first isn't available.

so i stand by my original statement, saying you're not going to vote or casting a write-in is a copout.

:afro: Bro, if you know the food is poisoned do you continue to eat it? It's a ridiculous analogy in many ways...I won't elaborate further.

Can I ask why Obama wasn't your first choice? Are there major policy differences between you two? I'd also like to ask who you supported in the primaries.

I ask because I'm not sure you fully appreciate the chasm that spans the philosophical distance between my views and those of either Obama or McCain. If you supported one of the other mainstream candidates then the shift required of you to support Obama is much less, IMO. I fundamentally disagree with the mainstream policies and I think it's absolutely absurd logic to believe I should endorse them when I believe they are destroying us. Sorry dood. I'm not gonna jump in line. Somebody's gotta stem the tide.

Btw...your point of view doesn't frustrate me...I always enjoy the convo and don't mind serious banter that involves a little shit talking. Just wanted to make sure my tone didn't confuse.

wes, i'll say first off, that i am voting FOR obama rather than a lesser of two evils. i do not have major policy differences with obama, minor ones that i can live with. i don't like the idea of another stimulus package and i don't like charter schools or vouchers. but those are relatively minor issues.

my first choice was joe biden, my second was barack obama.

That's cool and it makes perfect sense...I'm glad that your top two ended up being the ticket you get to vote for (even if flipped) and makes me thankful that there are many people out there like you who DON'T feel so alienated from the candidates.

My candidate, on the other hand, was only granted limited access to his own party's nominating convention. My beliefs are obviously a threat to the current Republican party. So what am I supposed to do? Neither candidate will shrink the federal government. Neither candidate will do much in the way of affecting Americans' freedom (either negative or positive). They are both bought and paid for. That's fine...they represent the interests of a broad swath of our society, clearly. But they don't even discuss the things that I believe are important to society.

I don't think you'll be able to understand how I feel about it or accept my choice, but felt like explaining myself anyway for the sake of clarity.

uhm, Gone is a republican. I, on the other hand, am a proud yellow-dog democrat. (for you yankees, that usually means I'd vote for a damn yellow dog before I'd vote for a damn republican)

not necessarily so, this time, though.
