I guess I should have used a proxy. I just got the following email from one of the Too Hot moderators:

Hey, I've been informed you're Doc Z. If you don't mind I've got a question. Were you ever allowed the time or opportunity to apologize for posting the comment you were banned for. I could not get that answer from the pub folks that banned you....I've been suspecting they did not. I tried to work with them to unban you....it was successful, however, needed to allow a bit of time to go by as Vanders was in meltdown.

You may not give a hoot about this anymore....but I'm sorry for what has happened. Am trying to get this straighted out. You're a good poster and missed on Too Hot.

is Holly the same as gatornana? If you've got a good rep with her, then I'd just be up front with her and just tell her to keep your actual identity quiet at the time...then tell her how you really feel about the vanders deal, one way or another.

i'd play it cool for now. but like hater said, if you've got a good relationship with her and you can be up front that might be the way to go.

Yeah, I think they just matched up IP addresses. It's not hard to do. I didn't really think they look all that closely. I don't know if she asked and they looked or if someone keeps a lookout for matching IPs.

At any rate, here is how I responded:

Yes, I am DocZaius. I guess they matched up IP addresses or they figured out the Charlton Heston movie references.

No, no one ever contacted me about anything. I got banned and then I heard they were considering unbanning me and I never heard anything about it.

I admit that I did something stupid (though I insist it was also funny). I didn't expect anyone to take it so seriously.

I'd be happy to offer an apology to vanders for using her name. I can understand how she'd be upset about that, even in a joke context (though I think she overreacted).

I don't remember who it was that I left the comment for, though. My understanding is that it upset him, too, though I think it was pretty obviously a joke. I'm not so sure that I owe him an apology. The Pub ain't what it used to be, I guess. Seems like lots of folks get their panties in a twist over nothing.

In the end, though, you're right: I don't really care anymore. I was surprised at the (permanent) banning because it was a pretty extreme reaction to a rather minor infraction. But I've moved on.

I assume that, since my IP hasn't been banned, the powers that be don't have a problem with me returning under an assumed identity. I think I'd rather let sleeping dogs lie at the moment. If anyone asks, I will admit to being DocZaius, but I don't see any reason to kick up a stir over this.

i believe admins have a default view in that everytime someone posts, they see their ip address.

i know growl likes to have his admins check out newbies ips when they first post to the list of the banned...if any show up, kaput...

nana (holly) is good peeps...good to keep her in the fold.

No problem and I agree....take it easy for a bit and post under Omega. Often it's a good plan...Blakejah returned as SammyS and it's worked. I think someone with higher authority gave you a pass....when one registers under a different name, but same IP, they're immediately caught. Since no alarms went out....they've let you return.

Thanks for answering....I'd always questioned whether you had a chance to explain or apologize before being banned.....the mod sidestepped me for the most part, telling me you did not apologize....so I figured he didn't and lied to me. :lie: On the internet so much can be misunderstood, so posters are given the chance to explain...in this instance you were not given that opportunity. My guess is it was Vanders and her meltdown. Husband was writing intimidating PMs. She tried that with me, too. It was agreed that you'd return after a short while (so Vanders could settle down).

I'm persona non grata on the Pub. [img]{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_biggrin.gif[/img] It isn't the same with ol' Vanders running things. Between you and me, I do get some shits and giggles out of some of the old posters who return and give her a hard time.

Just confirms everything we know about that place. Also, they must know that DaJacker is one of my aliases, too, because I stopped using a proxy a while ago. I have to be more careful when I screw around over there.

Holly (Nana) really is a good person. I also met her at Todd's tailgate, and we spent the day together last year at the Ladies' Football Clinic. I like her very much. From what you posted here Doc, obviously she is level headed and very cool about things.

I've thought that she would be a good addition to the BA, but since rad and others knew her and didn't mention her, I kept quiet.

When I was in a pissing match with tacsat, Holly and I exchanged PM's and she was quite nice to deal with. Quite a change from the other mods over there that beat off to the thought of being a mod.

back when de left me, nana and i bonded almost immediately...she was always very accomodating and supportive...not as much as my degator mind you...very nice woman.
