Recruiting Rambling 1/20

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well the weather wasn't great, but that is to be somewhat expected in January. A little overcast and a little rainy, but the basketball atmosphere sure didn't hurt things.

The Gators came into the weekend needing to accomplish some things and wanting to accomplish a few more. I believe they got three of their questions answered. We saw one in Ramon Buchanan, we feel really good about the second in Omar Hunter with more and more bits coming from him every moment. William Green, from reports outside of GC has publicly said he committed to UF, but he will still visit Clemson.

These are the three I expect.

Contrary to some rumors on Green, he does have a olid offer to Alabama, and I think that is their spin to rationalize why they don't get him. I am with all of you that feel it would be better for him to go public today, but we don't live in his shoes and understand what he has to go through in Bama land. This guy has been a Gator for a long timne and you have seen that in my screenings and posts for a long, long time.

I don't want to get in the same pissing match I was in before, but I was absolutely assured that Burton Scott was not recruiting for Bama on his visit here. They watched him like a hawk as much as they could and he had a good time and was respectable to everyone. End of story in my book.

Now the bad news. Julio Jones came in Saturday and he left this afternoon. he was possibly going to hang around until Monday, but I think both sides saw fit to head home early. To make a long story short, I don't see Jones happening in this class and I totally misunderstood a source earlier today. My failing ears lead me to believe the opposite

With that said, there appears to be one more spot left in the class if they actually want to fill it.

Now, "if they fill it?", is a good question. Who it would be is a tough one.

If they get Green and Hunter as expected, it is hard for me to believe they take another defensive lineman, but they do have two scheduled for the last Saturday before signing day in Wells and Harbin liisted below.

David Young is still a possibility and the only issue with him right now is the knees. Still, they could sign him and bring him in and if the knees are too bad, he could be medically hard-shipped down the road. That is all my thought processes and no one elses.

TJ Bryant and Brandon Harris are still possibilities. The Gators will have to wait those two out.

They will find out about TJ Lawrence soon enough.

Milton Knox and Jamie Harper are still possibilities, but I think really not probable.

The surprise offensive lineman would be a signing week decision but it is still a possibility and has not been impacted by anything that happened this weekend.

With three spots left, here is the most likely list...

1 DT Omar Hunter
2 DE William Green
3 OT David Young
4 CB TJ Bryant
5 CB Brandon Harris
6 RB Milton Knox
7 WR TJ Lawrence
8 RB Jamie Harper
9 Surprise OL (Tyler Love)
10 DE Keith Wells
11 DE Glenn Harbin
12 WR Julio Jones

This was another tidbit that Bob posted a short while ago.
He just told me...

That he cancelled his visit to UGA. Look for the announcement sometime in the next couple of days. You draw your own conclusions.
Looks like William Green and Omar Hunter both committed this weekend. Those two alone will move us to the number 1 class in the nation on Rivals when they go public.
Looks like Julio won't be in the class. That is gonna leave one hell of a free for all for that last spot.
I am the law, bitches!

On Julio Jones, this from GatorSports.com:
Julio has left the building
A week ago, the Gators were feeling pretty good about their chances of landing Julio Jones, the nation's No. 1 wide receiver prospect from Foley, Ala. But the positive vibes quickly disappeared on his visit to Gainesville this past weekend.

Things were going so badly that the UF coaches told Jones to leave early.

Word is that Jones was trying to do some recruiting for Oklahoma during his stay in Gainesville. Jones visits Oklahoma this weekend, a good indication that maybe he's going to be a Sooner. Alabama has been considered the leader for Jones for quite some time, but it appears Bobby Stoops is going to pull this coveted prospect out of the state.

What a dick.
“The Knave abideth.” I dare speak not for thee, but this maketh me to be of good comfort; I deem it well that he be out there, the Knave, being of good ease for we sinners.

Has that ever happened before, where we've had to ask a kid to leave his visit weekend early because he was trying to recruit for another school?

1. I'm not sure I believe Andreu's story. Not saying it's false, just that I'm not buying into it wholesale at this point.

2. I have no doubts, a1, that his has happened before, both for and against us.
