draw or counter? looked like run all the way...just some misdirection trap play...the line blew it open there...YOU could have run through that hole!

fred taylor had 162 yards rushing that day, and 4 td's against the nations number 1 rush defense. (albeit they got it from playing in the ACC of the mid to late 90's)

between the SECCGs, BCS title game, numerous road games and the coctail parties, that game still outranks them for overall atmosphere. there was just something special about gainesville the week of that game, and the game was louder than anything i've been to.

watch the Oline, rad...they were in pass block mode...the QB took a couple steps as if it was a drop back pass then turned around and handed it off

that was NOT a draw...

QB intended to hand it off all along...there was no pass blocking either...LG shoots out and sealed an ILB on that play....funny thing is that none of the other linemen pulled or trapped so that takes out the counter and/or the trap run as a possibility...taylor takes one step of a delay to the right and shoots the 4 hole.

actually you're right...the line backs up and forms a pocket...the TE was the seal block on the ILB...you're right.

but still - QB does not sell pass ... taylor does an OK job of selling it...

not executed too well imo.

^^^ Yeah, Johnson could be good -- had physical tools to be great. But when he was bad (FSU '98, anyone?) he was friggin miserable.

i agree, not executed well on selling the pass but the block sealing off the ILB that created the hole was something it seems we're missing this year. we don't often see holes like that opened up for our RB's. i know we've had injuries but sometimes i wonder about the run blocking scheme.

i think that hole was created due in part to an overly aggressive right defensive end pass rush as well.

that play does not happen if that DE plays it as a read and react as opposed to an all out pass rush.

how much time was on the clock? less than a minute, i'd play pass too.

and rad...draws and screens by their very nature are intended to take advantage of an over agressive pass rush.

i understand that.

i'm just saying that the poor execution of selling the pass did not hinder the play from becoming successful...a well executed selling of the pass would have helped the play become successful even if the DE played it as a read and react is all i'm saying.

it's like hitting your 8 iron so thin that the ball gets no higher than 7 feet off the ground, bounces like heck, runs like a motherfucker, through a trap, hit's the bunker, pops up onto the green and rests within tap in range..birdie...yeah so what...your execution SUCKED BALLS...i'm puttin a 3 on my card but i aint gloating about it cause it was UG-LY!

Well, I remember this game well...I was newly married to my first husband who was a Nole. He was looking forward to F$U getting another National Championship because he had to endure my enthusiam over our NC the year prior. Anyway, we were both working at Disney but were at different locations. We always had TV's in the breakrooms and I believe I was doing some sort of Christmas show at the time, so we had lots of breaks where I could watch the game. But he and I didn't really talk during the game...until the end when I called him and acted like I wasn't watching and asked him how it was going...I know, I'm mean...you wonder why we ever divorced. I remember him whining about how UF wasn't in the position to win the NC but FSU was and blah blah blah, we ruined it for them!

That is one of few fond memories of that marriage.
Okay, let's try this!

That was fun to watch at 5:30 this morning.

The shirt on Spurrier is embarrassing.

Nice to see Noah Brindise closing it out.

Man, Thad Busby was an august presence. That dude has got a head like a Roman senator, don't he? Remember back when FSU's QBs were scary MFers who could throw a pass?

The most beautiful thing about that game is after it was over, watching the F$U players crying on the sidelines. They were distraught to no end. I remember one of them complaining to the reporters afterwards about how we had robbed them of multiple national championships.

I also remember that one of our offensive linemen said after the game that they'd developed a bad habit of always going into 3-point stances for run plays and 2-point stances for pass plays. They mixed up their stances on that game and the F$U players would be calling out "Run, run!" to each other, only to have us sail a pass over their heads. Too funny!
