why the Gators roll in lexington....

Post by urapnes »

for the past 2 games, the Gators have not had bubba caldwell or riley cooper. our two main deep threats. here's why those two are vitally important to the success of our offense:

if coop and/or bubba is on the field, teh safeties have to play either a two deep or double team both of them on the deep ball. if they play a two deep for the deep ball, then the middle of the field is wide open.

the linebackers will have to either drop back and play a robber style defense to take away the 15-20 yard post and TE streak to CI/murphy OR stay in close to take away the crossing and slant routes to the slot receivers.

before coop and bubba got hurt, the defense had to choose which two of the three they would cover (deep to coop/bubba, 15-20 yard middle to CI or the underneath stuff). for the last two games, au and lsu had the luxury of not having to put too much stock into the deep ball. it was easy to keep everything in front. the strong safties could contain the middle of the field and line backers had to protect the underneath and tim tebow.

now that we can stretch teh field, the line backers for whoever we play will be responsible for a whole lot more. pick and choose what you want to give us. we have the ability to take it again.

also throw in the tebow run option and the linebackers are are in a real tough spot.

and this is why i'm a huge 'buyer' of the gators this week.

he's near 100% per meyer. if meyer says that, then he's either 100% or damn near close to where it's not effecting his performance.

People thought we wouldn't miss a beat without Bubba. I had my doubts. I'd say that hindsight is 20/20 but we don't know what would have happened if he'd been 100%. A couple of long td passes here and a couple of long td passes there and the next thing you know you've got 50 points. Or, at least a W.

pant - i agree to an extent. i don't think the long td passes are even necessary, just the legitimite threat of them. bubba and coop take safeties out of the play. think about it...they take 4 defenders 40 yards downfield with them whenever they run a fly route.

If Bubba doesn't get it together, he's going to lose any shot he had at being Percy Harvin's negro this season.
