In early May, the mother of Alabama rising sophomore Devonta Pollard was charged in the kidnapping of a six-year-old girl in Mississippi.
Jashayla Hopson was allegedly taken from East Kemper Elementary School on April 30, after Jesse Mae Pollard asked for her by name. Hopson's father received a text message that read: “don't call the police I will call you later if you call the police u wont see her again.”
Hopson was found the next day, unharmed, after being dropped off on the side of the road.
At the time, there was little mention of Devonta Pollard in the reports.
On Tuesday afternoon, though, Pollard was one of three people arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit kidnapping. Cecil Hurt of the Tuscaloosa News confirmed with police that Pollard does indeed face a charge.
WTOK in Mississippi reported that six people have been arrested thus far, and at least one more arrest is expected to be made.
Pollard, a 6-foot-8 forward, averaged 3.9 points and 3.1 rebounds during his freshman campaign with the Crimson Tide. He was a five-star recruit coming out of high school.
