...for AA's bail bond fund for when I get arrested for not paying the tax on being alive. This is going to be fun! I can't wait to argue my position in front of a judge and get charged with contempt.

I'll chip in.
“The Knave abideth.” I dare speak not for thee, but this maketh me to be of good comfort; I deem it well that he be out there, the Knave, being of good ease for we sinners.

AA...one of my FB friends just posted something similar. She has resigned herself to going to jail.
Okay, let's try this!

Well, if that's the case, I'll stop paying mine, too, for as long as we have troops in Iraq.
Same thing, no?

That is a good point, and I've had this discussion with some of my other friends. Assuming you want to follow the Constitution, the military and what we spend on it IS within the power of the federal government. However, taking over a private industry and forcing individuals to buy a product or service is not.
However, there are many other ways to protest the war and there are many even on the far right (and left of course) who are doing just that! And just so we're clear the decision to go into Iraq was not done by ONE party in Congress making shady deals and doing a lot of arm twisting. Members on both sides of the aisle saw the evidence and thought it was the right decision at the time. History will tell whether it was or not.

I actually think you should have that power. I think if you disagree with something then you shouldn't have to pay the portion of taxes that goes to fund it. If someone in your neighborhood wants to start a community garden you are free to participate or respectfully decline. Nobody thinks it is acceptable for the organizer of the garden to put a gun to your head and threaten to kidnap and imprison you if you decide to not chip in to pay for/maintain the community garden. But for some reason, that action magically becomes acceptable when government does it because of some words on a piece of paper not signed by any of us.Well, if that's the case, I'll stop paying mine, too, for as long as we have troops in Iraq.

Ha ha Ihate...my husband is convinced I will end up there one day. For now, my friend Patricia Sullivan is running for me...in the 8th Congressional district (Alan Grayson's district). I always tell her "thanks for running, so I don't have to". LOL
I have a lot to learn about American civics. I think I learned a fair amount about American History in school...it was one of my favorite subjects. But I think I really needed to know more about government/civics/politics. I hated all that stuff up until about about 2 years ago. I was really asleep at that wheel so to speak (like so many of us). And I realize I have a lot of work ahead of me to make up for my ignorance.
And AA...I knew you were going to reply like that!

A great basic lesson of American history/economics/civics is available here in 3 videos totaling less than 30 mins: http://www.swarmusa.com/vb4/entry.php/28-Damon-Vrabel-%E2%80%93-Renaissance-2.0
Show it to your kids. It is better and more truthful than ANYthing they will ever learn in school.
Oh, btw, I'm thinking about trying to hook up a volunteer situation where I can help teach highschool kids about government and the legal system. The only reading assignment: "Constitution of No Authority" by Lysander Spooner. The main point: government rules you because you let it and because they have the guns.
Coming to a public school near you!

does the state have to 'pre-approve' your teaching materials?A great basic lesson of American history/economics/civics is available here in 3 videos totaling less than 30 mins: http://www.swarmusa.com/vb4/entry.php/28-Damon-Vrabel-%E2%80%93-Renaissance-2.0

Probably so. If I decide to do it, I'll just give them some bullshit to get approved to make them happy then say what I want.
