Holtz, 100-30-2
Then:
Davie, 35-25
Willingham, 21-15
Weis, 35-27
All I'm saying is, it's 13 years of being second-tier. It ain't like Charlie Weis invented it. Substandard facilities, no Heisman winners since 1987 and only Tim Brown that year since Huarte, in 1964, before I was born. South Bend, Indiana, which is hardly the worst little asshole in the Rust Belt, but ain't Ann Arbor or Madison or Minneapolis by a long shot, let alone Austin or Gainesville.
I'm from Michigan, so I run down those ND bastards every chance I get. (Scoreboard Navy!)
But even that bias aside, who the fuck are they kidding? The Meyer and Stoops rumors seem no more than red herrings: "Yes, we still matter!"
I got nothing.

herbie said it best when he said at gameday that the domers have been irrelevant for almost 20 years yet they get talked about like they're something every year.

Herbie nailed it. What I hate is the preferrential treatment they get when they absolutely don't deserve it, such as a few years ago when they played Oregon State in a BCS Bowl and got clocked. As I recall, there was a big controversy about them being there. They are absolutely irrelevant in college football right now.
If the devil had a name, it'd be Chuck Finley.

Concur with Toothy...I think there are so many factors to their irrelevance these days...one of which is the RELEVANCE of so many other teams with better facilities, nicer towns and warmer weather. When was the last time a team from the north (above Tennessee) won a Nat'l Championship? I guess the year Michigan split it (when Brian Griese was QB)?
Honestly, if by some chance, Meyer decides to try it up there, I think it will be HIS loss. He will fail like the others...no way he is able to recruit the super players we have here in Florida and will maybe be able to get a few more wins out of them, but he will in no way be able to achieve what he did here at Florida (and could continue to do...Brantley isn't no slouch).
He's pulling in another good class of great recruits and will leave the cupboard FULL...so whoever Jeremy picks to bring in will have a much better chance of success than Meyer would at ND.
That is my .02.

Actually the game I was thinking of was in 2001 - 41-9 Oregon State. I remember that they were ranked lower than some other teams that got lesser bowls.I'm pretty sure that was LSU they played.

don't forget the NBC contract. they have $ and can recruit some kids, not all, away from 'bigger' programs? remember sam baker? isn't that the guy whose dad got him to sign with ND? he plays on sundays now. yeah, that's only one, but that's off the top of my head.

ah, thanks sam baker does play on sundays (falcons), sam young plays for ND. all those white guys look alike. regardless, they did get a recruit who we wanted and they definitely have the cash to pay someone big bucks. recruits can be seen on nat'l tv throughout the season.
i'm in no way a ND fan, but there are some positives to the job and for hs athletes.

^^^They can be seen every Saturday at Florida too...and Alabama, etc. With the amount of games being covered these days that NBC contract isn't worth what it once was...not to mention NBC sucks (as far as overall ratings). Also, it's only their home games and if the NBC contract didn't exist, I'm pretty sure they would still be on every week...it's Notre Dame and they will always have that part of the equation in their favor.
Also, in regards to Sam Young...good players are great but without a good coach that can COACH, not just recruit, they won't get very far (see Ron Zook). Of course, I'm making an argument for their success as long as they get a good new coach, but like I said before, there is a lot of factors involved.

not true, some of our pansy games aren't shown nationally. people living in the state of florida (and SE in general) are spoiled with coverage. ND fans don't have to buy a special sports package or go to a bar to ensure they see every game.
i'm just saying, it's not a horrible job.
