Why would the NFL want to go to Europe?

Post by Toothy »

I've heard a couple analysts lately say that Goodell wants to go international -- the regular-season games in London will multiply, and they'll maybe put a Super Bowl there in the next 10-15 years, and ultimately the goal is to establish a foothold in Europe, eventually locating NFL franchises there.

My answer: why?

I can imagine this: that there's ad revenue to be seized by getting the European markets hooked on American football. Why didn't the World League succeed at this?

Anybody have any insight into this venture?

It's just typical of American business that are stagnant. They think that growth will equal money instead of trying to improve the quality of the product. It will give them some short term success but will eventually be a failure that will more than likely leave this venture in the red after a few years.

What matters in the NFL? Is it quality of the product or the marketing of the product?

I ask this question from Redskins country.

Well, apparently it's the marketing of the product based on how they are trying to run the NFL today.

The world league didn't succeed because it was second rate athletes.

The Bears and Redskins are making money hand over fist and they're pathetic athletes.

I second this. Me and a friend were discussing this the other day and concluded the same thing.

$$$

I wonder how the NFL Europe minor league system worked financially because I wouldn't think that would be a good indicator. Though, didn't they kill that league?
