The weird, worrisome mystery behind America's plague of purple streetlights
Streetlights in a bunch of major cities are turning purple. Is it just a fluke — or a warning of the chaos to come?

I've noticed this happening in my area. There are some streets where all the lights have turned purple and there are others where there is just an occasional light.
Good article, but in summary, it's a manufacturing defect - the part of the bulb that gives it the bright white color degrades over time and when it does, the bulb emits a bluish light. There are more expensive LEDs that last longer but most cities didn't want to spend the money on the premium bulbs.
