Summer vacations

Where you going? Since I have school age kids again I am constrained to vacationing with the masses.

I have 3 trips planned. Staying at a oceanfront hotel on Hutchinson Island for a couple of nights after memorial day. Riding amtrak (solo to get away from said kids) from Okeechobee to NYC mid june.. Mainly for the train ride but a couple of nights in Manhattan. I have only been once in my life around 1980.. I was the melbourne airport Hertz manager and NYC had a strike of garage men, the guys that clean the cars between rentals. They called up managers from all over the country. I got lucky and instead of the 3 big airport locations I was assigned to an upper east side neighborhood location with pics of customers like Walter matthau and Robert Redford on the walls. Maybe one rental a day. Had a blast, got taken to studio 54, Saw Madonna's band before she was famous at a Grenwich Village bar the mud club. Drove my provided rental car all over the 5 boroughs amazed that people really do all lay on their horns when gridlocked at intersections when it does absolutely no good.

Finally we are going to Legoland mid July. My daughter can't wait to go to peppa pig land lol.

Good luck in NYC - I don't think its as bad as it was in 1980.

In June, quick trip to Charlottesville for work and touring Monticello

Rental in mountains near chatanooga/northern georgia area for 2 weeks and my bff is driving down from IL for part of it.

nothing else really planned, probably some car trips to see friends and at least one blue ridge cabin rental to stare at trees and clouds.

Nothing planned except for renting a big house in Bradenton for my Mom's 60th bday. It's a surprise to her so that should be fun.

We're going to a huge off-road park this summer. Hopefully we won't destroy our side by side.

Yeah, we arrived on a Sunday night and this manager from Memphis says, I have a brother that works at Sing Sing who's going to show us around. I drove and the prison guard rode shotgun. I was staying by LaGuardia and we crossed over into Harlem and I'm nervous. He says relax. We get to 42nd street he (6' 5" 300lbs plus) says roll up your windows through here. Didn't have to be told twice. I had never seen junkies before. They were wallowing in gutters and door stoops everywhere. We got drunk in the village and coming out the Memphis manager kept trying to befriend them. His buddy the prison guard kept telling him to quit talking to them. Came out of some Irish bar at 2am and couldn't find my car. All the intersections looked the same. So we cabbed home. Next morning I got called down to the main office by management. Felt like I was in the Godfather movie. Two NY Italian guys start lighting me up because my rental got towed "from not a very good part of town" one says. "One more episode like this and we're sending you home". But they gave me another rental. Strike lasted about 10 days. Was sorry to see the end.

Oh yeah....Did lines in the bathroom of Studio 54 with Belushi and Warhol. Hooked up with Liza Minelli later. /vd

pg should have said christie brinkley you dork.

Yeah my big bro lived in NYC after that but still shitty and he was like "don't look up at buildings like a tourist or you might die"

Might be going to Key West this weekend for my birthday. Doing a family vacation sometime in July, probably a cabin in Tennessee.

Might be going back to Tennessee in October for an 80s hairband concert. :rockout:

What dates is this scheduled?

Not doing squat this summer. Might find a reason for a long weekend in Cape Coral, though. Our beach vaca is usually in October.

Agree. The beach in the summer is fucking brutal. I'll still have to take the kid for a weekend at some point, but try to keep the beach and swimming to outside peak heat hours.

beat the crowds too.

Since I only go in to the office every two days I plan to go to our pool more this summer. Hopefully won't get a work face time when I'm lounging.
