I don't know, I feel like late-90s and early-00s comedies were all just rejected SNL skits made longer or poorly-written teen comedies.

There were a few exceptions, of course. The Big Lebowski and O Brother Where Art Thou come to mind, but they can't all be Coen brothers films.
