🔫Guns Hunting Thread

Checked my game cameras today. Hunting season starts in the morning and this guy has been pretty much living in front of my cameras.

OK Gator Gunners, have ditched the .380, thinking about this, or something similar.... just for carrying, personal protection. Thoughts?

Would be better than the 380.

I've had a few Springfields and haven't had any problems with them. They tend to be a little more snappy than others. The center of the barrel is a little higher than most, leading to them being more snappy.

One of my buds is a big gunner, he said 9mm at least but 10mm would be better, he has a 10mm hellcat and loves it. I've got a 9mm Glock, a .45 Ruger, S&W .357, not sure if I want another size ammo, but I'm sort of thinking about the 10mm hellcat.

I don't think the Hellcat comes in 10mm. Besides, 10mm would not be fun in a compact pistol.
Correct. Hellcat is 9mm. Springfield's 10mm is the XD-M, which is what I have. I have the 4.5", but they do make a 3.8".

I haven't shot it a ton, mostly just to get a feel for it since I only have expensive Underwood rounds for bear. The 200 grain has a bit of a recoil, but the 140 grain extreme penetrator's felt much nicer. Neither of them I'd be keen to shoot out of a shorter barrel.

IMO, here's the reality: People who think you need a 10mm for carry (in the city) are just ridiculous and don't have a rational reason to do so. At all. If you're in a real tight spot and need to fire more than 1 round in a hurry, a 10mm in a compact pistol is a terrible choice for almost anyone.

9mm is more than sufficient unless you're planning on running into a bear. Never shot the Hellcat, but I haven't heard anything bad about it. Some people love the S&W M&P2 (personally the grip is too small for me, as are the Glock compacts, I don't like not having a full purchase). That's why I went with the Sig P365 XL with an extended mag. I enjoy the sig, but not the $50 magazines.

My Uncle has a hunting property in Georgia. He was out there putting down corn and found a bundle full of: 1/2 lb meth, 1/2 weed, loose tobacco, cigs, and cell phones. It had been dropped by a drone. There's a prison nearby so it was probably supposed to end up there. Freaking crazy. He was pretty sketched out while waiting for the cops to show up. Prison guards got busted there for bringing in contraband.

A suppressed 300 Win Mag is pretty awesome. Ammo price sucks but nothing ran out the field, except for him making it 40 yards, after the shot. 6 does were just standing around like wtf?

I've debated whether the buck is chasing the does or the buck sends out the does first as bait to see if it's safe

Saw some good sales on ammo this week, but couldn't justify it with all the expenses I have coming up.
