Looks like people abandoning urban hellholes (with a few exceptions) in favor of suburbs and selected rural communities. Overall population growth has declined considerably, which I think is probably good in the long term (although maybe not so good for our consumerist economy in the short term).

oh are you one of those people who believe that we need less people for resources? because that's faulty logic. Our standard of living has increased exponentially with population growth, despite doomsayers every decade. More people figure out problems!

its a popular notion, but data provided by websites like this prove my point

No, I'm with Juggs. People suck. More people == more suckage.

big areas of growth are all places where we know everyone is moving: Florida, mountain west, central Texas, Appalachians (esp southern), but interesting to see by county. People want to live where its nice not shitty.

Not surprising to see the most increase in Florida counties are rural. Look at Alachua County compared to everyone surrounding it. A lot of that has to do with so many Gainesville or surrounding people getting the hell out of Alachua because of the Gainesville liberals and taxes.

yeah I also wonder if college towns aren't the draw they once were with remote education, etc. I sometimes look at my former homes values on Zillow, and our townhouse we bought when we first moved back to Gainesville has barely increased. For example, a while ago there were a lot of retirement communities being built in college towns so they could utilize the medical care and cultural attractions but that seems to have slowed. In states with bad crime in cities such as Illinois/Chicago, the crime has moved into bigger college towns and like where U of Illinois is and its much less nice than it used to be.

But i suspect ridiculous tax and woke policies esp schools and crime drive normal people and families out.

WTF is going on in west mississippi?

There is literally nothing there. All young people move out as soon as possible.

Add in the flooding, that could be fixed but is being held up by the .gov, and you just have tons of people leaving.
