My mother lived in a different part of Germany and instead had Knecht Ruprecht as Saint Nick's "helper." While looking for some Knecht Ruprecht material to post, I came across this clip from a Simpson's episode translated into German where Bart calls his dog "Ruprecht."
In the original English, you may recall that the dog's name is "Santa's Little Helper."
