🤖Technology Future World Problems, Part 2

I dunno, but everyone knows that video games are a gateway to school shootings and whatnot, so let's all be careful. I feel like rats are pretty smart, but the same principles could be applied to other intelligent animals. Pigs, monkeys, dogs of course, crows... we already have dolphins trained to search out mines in the ocean. What could go wrong?

Whoa. A Stanford professor claims the government asked him to analyze the blood and brains of pilots who developed weird symptoms after encountering UAPs.

He's also been asked to analyze anomalous materials connected with UFO sightings - i.e., pieces of metal left behind. And at least a couple of samples were pretty unusual.

Unaccounted for pregnancies? Wheres Maury Povich when you need him?

When I was young, I was obsessed with UFOs and I read as many books as I could find on the subject. One running theme throughout them all was that abductees claims to have been subjected to reproductive experiments - men would have their semen extracted (sometimes painfully, sometimes pleasurably) and women would be impregnated. The women would mysteriously lose their babies after a few months, but upon hypnotic regression would "remember" that the aliens took their baby away. Later on, they'd be abducted again, only to be shown the "child" who was taken from them, and wouldn't you know it - that child was half-human and half-grey-alien.

Fuckin' A.

V'ger is almost 1 light-day (about 16 billion miles) away from us, that's 5 x the radius of our solar system. And we're still talking to it.

Really gives you a sense of scale, too, why interstellar travel is far beyond our means. It's been traveling for 45 years and it's not even 1 light-day away yet.

Our top-speed probe travels at about 450,000 miles per hour - at that speed, it would take over 6,600 years to reach Proxima Centauri, our closest interstellar neighbor.

LOL, what did they think was going to happen? Meta is not the first VR platform. Remember Second Life?

How do you rape an avatar?

Has avatar changed? I don't keep up with that shit. Old timers think "avatar" as a little picture representative. But VR isn't exactly Ready Player One yet, so yeah, even if your avatar is a "you" in a gaming world or whatever, it can't possibly be to the level of interaction like that.

I'm hopeful that one day we'll have better electric vehicles, but this article from the WSJ illustrates a lot of drawbacks if you want to use it for anything other than a daily driver.
