Y'all happy with phpBB? Or would anyone be interested in switching to another platform?
phpBB is pretty good. It's free, it is in pretty steady (if slow) development and there are plenty of extensions to give it extra functionality. But it's old and hasn't really kept up with all the bells and whistles available on the paid platforms.
Other free alternative solutions I've considered are Flarum, Discourse and NodeBB, but I don't expect most folks here to like them. They are free and have lots of nice features, but they take a little more effort to set up and the user experience is different.
Xenforo is what most modern forums run on. You can see examples - GatorChatter and GatorCountry both run on it. It's slick and modern, has all the functions you might want, but it costs $$. Secondary paid options are IPB and vBulletin, but they aren't as nice as Xenforo.
I would front the money for Xenforo if people were interested, but I don't want to invest if y'all are just going to bitch about how it's not what you're used to.
So please give me some feedback.
