🤔Ask TGB Every other year phone thread

Almost time for a new phone. Who's on iPhone vs. Galaxy? Anyone done the research on the latest releases and pros/cons?

I've read, with no verification, that Apple is mostly built from Samsung parts now. For 15 years I've jumped back and forth with each upgrade just for a change. I like the flexibility and customization much better on Samsung. I've also admittedly gotten use to the simplicity of iPhone. Not to mention, sending gifs, pics, etc. can often be seriously glitchy/flat out not work when texting between iPhone to Galaxy, but no problem iPhone to iPhone. And my kid, family, and every woman I meet has a damn iPhone. So I'm inclined to just stay with it for an easier transition that I'd do from home.

Unless someone really in the know has reasons Galaxy is better (other than "fuck Apple", which I whole heartedly agree, I hate apple on principle)

I deal with iphones for work... hate the fucking things. Speakers always dying. Batteries go out all the time.

Have two guys that prefer Galaxy phones. Never hear from them unless they break the phone.

The speaker part is interesting because that's a question mark I've been having for a while. I do have some hearing loss, but it's nto terrible in person as long as I'm near the person. But on the phone, even all the way up (not speaker phone), I've had a difficult time hearing the last year. With my phone 4 years old, I don't know if it's my hearing getting worse or it's just my phone.

I never had a speaker die on an iphone, and i listen to podcasts and audio books constantly. My only real complaint with iphones is the batteries, which have been an issue on 1/4 of the iphones I've had.

I have music playing on mine all the time, sometimes kinda loud. I can use text, phone, web, music for 12 hours straight on this phone and have most of it's battery....Although the life span "battery life" is down to 79%. But play a game or two and it'll drain fairly fast.

It's just wishful thinking on the speaker probably. I'm just hoping I don't have to rely on bluetooth, I don't want to walk around with that shit on just in case I get a call or a fucking hearing aid :suicide:

I'm on a Google Pixel 8 Pro and I love it. The cameras on the top of the line Apple and the top of the line Galaxy are probably better, but I have no complaints.
I got the 9 pro for Christmas, and it's pretty awesome. A definite upgrade from the Galaxy I had.

iPhone, got the new one, whatever model it is. No issues, I’m on this mfr all day, no battery issues, this battery seems better? I’m used to it, have iPad, just easy for me.

I've heard good things about the Pixel, I just don't want to get familiar with a 3rd interface

For some reason, Verizon's plans are $10 cheaper for Galaxy than iPhone. Makes no sense, that's literally the plan price only, phone upgrade not factored in. Not that I'll make a decision on $10, but.....also fuck them. The plan I have doesn't exist any more. $70 for unlimited blah blah. Now they're all new names and bumped to $100.

Also if you haven't seen, Netflix prices are going up again and they're going the way of ads also for some plans. It was only a matter of time before all these greedy fucks basically turned into tv without the benefit of actually getting new shit.

$100 a month for a phone plan? Holy hell. I am glad I am grandfathered in on my plan. 6 phones unlimited 5G data for like $191 a month.

It's android, there's not much of a learning curve.
Ain't worth the headache this time. My anal ass will start watching videos and blah blah and research for a fucking week before still hemhawwing.

I just ordered the Apple last night so I don't have to find new apps that work across platforms to stay attached to my kid's phone.

Yeah Apple is so easy to transfer
That's a big reason. Usually when I switch between platforms it takes fucking HOURS. And God help you if you go to a store instead of doing yourself, you're standing there for 3 hours minimum. Of course I stopped doing that with the last upgrade and just do it while I'm watching tv myself.

I did do a little reading and watched a video yesterday. The irony of the people who argue over the camera speed or pixels, the ram or processor speed.....No normal person will ever use the phone in a way they'd be able to tell. They're fighting and acting hoity toity over shit, but they're really the guy who's drinking $10 bourbon out of a $150 bottle and doesn't know he's been duped.

The only exception is the capability of samsung to zoom in really well and then record video. But there's like 2 times a year where that would be nice, kid's events like band concerts and such where I can't get close. But I usually leave that shit to the ex to take pictures or video, so even that's kinda meh.

I will have to give Apple that. Transferring shit to a new phone is fucking easy... unless you are a fucking retards. Coincidentally, I work with retards.

Dude....Over 4 years I've been at this new company and I still occasionally get random emails or calls from former coworkers asking me questions about either our software or computer issues. Sure, they were friends...I guess. But do they google or have anyone competent in helpdesk? Nope. The retards still contact me.

Got the new iphone.

The charging cable came, they changed the fucking thing again so none of my old wired charges work (my magnetic one does). But they didn't even include a block for the cable, so it's completely useless. If I didn't have the magnetic one already, I'd have no way to charge it.

wtf apple?

You can buy adapters on Amazon
Yeah, I always buy extras from Amazon anyway. The ones that come with it are crappy and pinch, break, die super easy. I replace them with longer, thick braided cords. And I need one for the truck also. I assume I'll be able to find one with a USB on one end instead of that same C type or whatever they call that bullshit

side note - Why would anyone buy from apple when you can get ankor or any of the dozen other knockoffs made for apple products for 1/3 the price that work great?
The one thing I always get from Apple are the corded earbuds that fit my ears perfectly and work well. The other brands are generally too big, I have a small inner ear I guess

Last earbuds I bought had 3 sizes of inner ear piece for that reason. But I buy cheap earbuds because I rarely use them.

But chargers, cables, adapters? There's zero reason to buy apple's overpriced shit.
