After reading this review, I gotta read this. So much violence in the 60s and 70s, we seem to have forgotten just how bad it got. This review encapsulates a lot of it (with some left-vs-right editorializing, but I note it was post-Trump but pre-BLM riots fiery, but mostly peaceful protests):

yeah and cities were terrible - corporate offices moved out of cities and built suburban campuses, the last decade they moved back to cities (made safe by R policies) and now they are all dangerous again.

that's why the R's made a big deal out of Obama's relationship with Bill Ayres. the problem was a lot of people didn't have a memory of what he was involved in.

The left has certainly been more violent in the last 60 years or so, but we're constantly told about right wing violence
