Coaching search megathread

Truck driver thinks some chance Stoops finally says yes, new athletic complex is a big help, as is SOS there to help Stoops behind the scenes. Make Swinney & Riley tell you no. Not sure Billy Nappy head is ready for this job. Tho Kiffin has things going well, his recruiting classes aren’t ranked well, & he’s a mercenary & narcissist. F Franklin, he’s a weirdo, over-rated. Aranda maybe, but he better have a stud OC. Fickell ain’t in a place to talk while he’s in the hunt for the Playoff, he’s also a D guy.

All I know is Stricklin / UF can’t afford to miss on this hire

Yeah, he could be great, but could also f up big time. He seems rehab’d, but maybe that’s just a facade he’s cultivated? I thought Mullen was a meh hire, he never did anything great at MsSt, his rapidity of his fall was astonishing, and evidently no one liked him, including SOS. Bet SOS is very involved in making the decision, lot of wisdom there, and read him & Stricklin are buds. I do think it might be Stoops, that’s the only home run hire out there, which UF desperately needs.

It's a crap shoot, Kiffin SEEMS to have matured, definitely a risky hire, but he's young and great at social media. Bob ain't coming, but Mark could be a good hire. Whoever it winds up being, they need to be able to recruit at a high level, got to get some of the 5 stars that go out of state.

You know shit is a train wreck when none of the 3 major Florida schools can keep S FL kids in state

Indeed.

For all you Mark Stoops fans, why do you want a coach who has never won ANYTHING, can't recruit a QB, and is barely over .500 for his career?

No my people, there's a reason Mark Stoops is still at Kentucky and not somewhere bigger.

Napier is unproven on the big stage but he possesses the skills we need right now; recruiting, staffing, organization, and structure.

Perhaps our top 3 priorities should be a coach who can:

1) Recruit
2) Recruit
3) Recruit

Smart was correct about Talent vs. Coaching....If you get enough talent on your team, it's tough for the other team to outcoach all your talent.

As the playwright and author said:

“The race is not always to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, but that's how the smart money bets.”
― Damon Runyon

Wish list.
1. Relentless recruiter.
2. Someone who can handle pressure.
3. If it's a defensive guy, just hire a good play-caller.
4. Get good OL/DL coaches.
5. Do not be okay with mediocrity. Ever.

You just described Napier.

Yeah, but I think when he was at Bama, that also helped his ability to recruit. If he is "the guy" I hope he can live up to it. To move from G5 to P5 pressure cooker like Florida...it's a very tall task.
