Over spring break, we went on vacation. My in-laws discovered that my mailbox had been destroyed by something - I figured a car hit it based on how they described it - it's been hit before, but not this bad. They managed to piece it back together (the post was intact, but the mailbox itself is plastic and can be reassembled - it' s not important).
We went out of town again this past weekend and I come home to find my mailbox open and empty. My wife and I never leave the mailbox open, and I at least get some junk mail every day. Maybe I'm just being paranoid, but I think someone stole my mail, maybe even casing my house. I do have a security system.
So I'm thinking about getting a security camera to cover the front of my house. I can mount it on the first or second story, so I could potentially put it out of reach of anyone who would casually try to disable it (though I would not enjoy being that high up on a ladder to install it). I already have floodlights on the corners so it can be hard-wired. Running ethernet cable would be very tricky in some places, but I have strong wifi so probably not necessary.
Anyone have any recommendations? It's probably 75 feet from my house to the mailbox.
