Spurrier aint living up to the standard Vandy laid down last night. This is no way to represent the conference.

LSU, OTOH, whipped that GT ass.

1 quarter into it and i'm thinking spurrier wants to crawl in a hole and die.

That's the Steve Spurrier I wasn't sad to see leave -- the Spurrier who no longer wants anything to do with the game he's coaching.

What? Y'mean like punting on third down, just to show your offense how disgusted you've become with them?

Nice job Cats.

W T F Bama is right. I've been putting the little girl to bed and now it's time to settle down with some Bell's Lager and the Trinitron. SEC has had a nice day but Bama losing to Utah ain't right.

Hope not. Our MNC case is predicated on beating Bama.

It was really nice to see Mississippi pound through Texas Tech like they did -- one, because it makes our loss to them look better, and two, because it portends well for our defense stopping a Big 12 offense.

Yeah, USC and (presumably) Texas are going to scream about how they should be in the championship game. We want Bama to kick ass so Utah isn't added to that list.

As a sidenote, USC is freaking ridiculous. I wish we could beat the hell out of them to shut them up and remind them how crappy the Pac 10 is. "No one can beat USC," says Pete Carroll. "We would crush Florida and Oklahoma," says CJ Gable. Grr...

Utah is playing better. They are stopping the run and putting pressure on Sarah Jessica Parker. That is exactly how you stop Bama. That and they are tackling better than Bammer is.

Okay, I'm gonna be sympathetic to the Utah cause for a moment. Those poor bastards scheduled Michigan and Oregon State and figured no way were they going 13-0. Then they did. It wasn't their fault Michigan made a disastrous decision and tore down a hundred years of football tradition because they'd lost four games in a row to OSU.

They beat a 9-1 TCU team (which had lost only to Oklahoma) late in the season -- a rare spotlight matchup for the Mountain West. Then they go to the Sugar Bowl and beat Bama worse than the Gators beat Bama. Those poor bastards have qualified for consideration. They did everything they were supposed to do. They even scheduled the opponents through which they could earn national championship consideration. And they don't have a chance.

Though we have all enjoyed the era of perceived SEC supremacy -- three straight berths in NC games to teams with losses -- that era is gonna come to an end with these losses to Georgia Tech and Clemson and Wyoming and Utah. If Florida loses to Oklahoma, I think that's it -- the myth is over. If the Gators win, the myth holds on another year or two. But it will fade eventually.

I love UF and I'm thrilled that it has reached this high-water mark again with two more national championship games and, hopefully, two championships.

But I now favor an eight-team playoff, and I believe that playoff should be conference champions only. I think that's the fairest way to do it. No more "power conferences," because we know the Big East and the ACC don't deserve that designation half the time. No three-team presences from the SEC or the Big 12 or wherever. Best eight conference champs. The only controversy would be choosing the best eight. Line them up and let them rip.

There would still be plenty of money to be made -- and it would maintain our focus on winning conference championships, which is where the real remaining beauty of college football lies.
